Publisher's Description

Wrong turns, humiliating flops, painful heartbreaks—and happiness? Yes, believe it or not, they can go hand in hand.

Blogger and author Mandy Hale, affectionately known as “The Single Woman” to her half-million social-media followers, is living an adventurous life that proves even our lowest lows and messiest mess-ups can point us toward our joy-filled destiny as single women.

In I’ve Never Been To Vegas, But My Luggage Has, Mandy delivers heart-to-heart, often hilarious stories from a life filled with love and loss, glamour and goose bumps, faith and friendship, big dreams and battle scars. She shares the bittersweet euphoria of her high-school romance, the panic-stricken cluelessness of her first day on a stressful job, and the foot-in-mouth horror of her red-carpet interview with a music legend.

Along the way, Mandy dollops personal anecdotes with encouraging insights. From thrilling first kisses to crushing break-ups, from soaring career milestones to promising flights that never quite got off the ground, she unfolds in often uproarious detail the zigzags along the path toward a pinnacle moment: sharing a table and a pinch-me-I’m-dreaming conversation with her lifelong hero.

In the end, Mandy turns Sin City’s infamous marketing slogan on its head: What happens in her life doesn’t stay in her life. She shares even her darkest moments in witty, winsome ways that make us not only feel her pain, but also laugh with her and apply her hard-won nuggets of inspiration to our own lives.

“Happily Ever After” might not look or feel quite like what we expect, but as Mandy is discovering—and as we can discover along with her—it is well within our reach.

This book by Mandy Hale is so real and honest. She is such an inspiring woman to openly share about the hardships as a single woman, and so honest about her struggles in dating and life in general. I first heard about her on a interview thing from Pete Wilson and heard of her first book then saw that another one was released and had to get my hands on it. As a single 30 year old it is encouraging to hear from a sister in Christ about life as a single person and how someone else gets through it and just lives day to day as sometimes that can be extremely difficult. Sometimes, it's a moment by moment thing because you can't bear to think any further. Any single woman should read her book and just be encouraged not to settle for anything less and to pull in to God and not give yourself to anyone just so that you can "date" or get married. God has someone, and as hard as it is for me to say and see this at times, He will bring that person along when He is good and ready. This is a must read book for any single woman, of any age!

I know! What a catchy title! You'll have to read the book to find out the story behind it...I 'met' Mandy Hale as a blogger before I discovered she was also an author. I absolutely love her enthusiasm, joy, and adventurous spirit! I was excited to see her second book as an option for reviewing this month.

I read her first book, The Single Woman, and while it was inspiring and enjoyable, it read more like a collection of short stories (or even blog posts). Luggage instead is an engaging memoir-style retelling of her personal growth through her twenties and thirties. Mandy is refreshingly open and honest, humble, and hopeful throughout the ups and downs. I love authentic people and she is that. I also appreciated her relationship with the Lord and how that affects her life and her vision.

My faves? Instead of focusing on living your single years looking for a mate, Mandy is all about surrendering them to Christ and enjoying them! She sees grace woven throughout the difficulties and messes of the years and how God faithfully uses them to make us stronger, more graceful women. I love her emphasis on personal growth, authenticity, the joyful adventure, and intentional living.

The not so much? Every once in awhile, her story or view leaned a little more toward "prosperity gospel" spirituality. Dreams, passions, success, following your heart....they can all be good things that God blesses and guides us to...but are not the goal in and of itself. So even though I am a fan of personal growth, sometimes it felt overemphasized in her book. And there were a few stories that hit a little too close to home to my own life--areas of my heart that were still raw, but I can't fault her for that!

Overall, I enjoyed it! Mandy Hale is a refreshing, inspiring voice for single women, reminding them to live with joy, gratitude, trust, and passion.

Thank you to BookLook Bloggers for a copy of this book to review at no cost. These are my honest and original opinions of the book.

Mandy Hale, thirty-four, writes a very readable autobiography that highlights events in her life from her senior year in high school to the present time. She tells of her different jobs, the relationships in her life, and her walk with Christ.

Mandy is very transparent when telling about her past relationships. She gives details about her first love which began her senior year in high school. Later, she tells of a long-term love relationship she had with another man, Mr. E (pronounce it mystery). Mandy loved Mr. E for years, but his inability to commit broke her heart over and over. Additionally, she describes a very dysfunctional relationship she was in with another man that became dangerously abusive. Mandy shares how quickly an abuser can worm their way into another's life, and even manipulate the abused person to feel responsible for the destructive behavior aimed at them.

She writes of the struggles she has had accepting the end of relationships, and that her dream of being married with children has not yet taken place. Mandy shares what she has done to live life joyfully as a single person. Through all her ups and downs, Mandy has received support from family and friends for which she much appreciates and counts as blessings and lifelines.

Mandy also shares her career journey. She has had some hilarious things happen to her in her work history. There have also been some difficult things occur, that were so painful, panic attacks and other emotional issues resulted. Mandy shares all the good, the bad and the in-between. Her current career, "The Single Woman," the on-line sensation she created, which has over half a million followers, is discussed from its beginning to what it is today.

By the time one finishes this book, Mandy feels like a close friend. She lets you into her mind and heart with her well-written accounts of her life. Reading Mandy's story will cause you to laugh with her, cry with her and feel her disappointments. She shares her love of Christ, and honestly reveals the times she has messed up. But she also tells of how God has stood by her, even when she hasn't stood by Him. Looking back on her life, Mandy traces God's hand in everything she has experienced. From the beginning, she has dedicated "The Single Woman" to God, and credits him for its phenomenal success.

This is a very readable book. Some of the things she writes about are sad, some incidents are fall-off-your-chair laughing, but all of her writings are worthwhile reading. This book will encourage you in your walk with God, and convict you if you don't have one. I highly recommend this 5-star book.

The publisher has provided me with a complimentary copy of this book through Thomas Nelson Publishing for the purpose of review. All opinions expressed are my own, and I have not been compensated in any other manner. Despite my receiving the book free, it has not influenced my judgment, and I have given an honest opinion.

Mandy Hale is affectionately known around the world as "The Single Woman." Her mission is to inspire single women to live their best lives and to never settle, Mandy cuts to the heart of the matter with her inspirational, straight-talking, witty, and often wildly humorous take on life and love; and her message reaches millions of women across the world every day through her blog.

Again, I am not Mandy's target audience. I am a man_ I am married. (I have also been Las Vegas) I picked this book up for my church so that it would minister to ladies who might check it out from the library.

The author's writing style is easily relatable. The story she tells of her life is direct and I am sure would speak to a young single woman. I am sure there are many young people who face the prospect of a career, marriage and maybe even kids with a little bit of trepidation, but the author's own story has a very reassuring tone that I am sure would bring comfort to someone looking for answers.

Clearly as a blogger, the author is a good writer. She is also a Christian and this book will often site biblical ideas and encourage readers of faith.

Mandy is such an engaging storyteller. Her writing is humorous, witty, light and yet intense. I like that she was so wiling and honest in sharing her experiences to the point of writing a book about it so that others can learn from it. She shared her weaknesses and imperfections through this book to help others overcome theirs.

If you haven't read her first book, The Single Woman, I recommend that you read this first before reading Never Been to Vegas. The Single Woman is very light and doesn't give so much details about her experience but it serves as a pre-cursor to this book.

For all the single women who have struggled not just in relationships but also in keeping their faith, finding healing and believing whether their dreams can still be fulfilled.
