Product Description

Navigate Through Grief with Biblical Mental Health Tools

When you suffer a loss, you enter the realm of "used to be." You used to be married. You used to be employed. You used to be pregnant, secure, healthy, sober, thin. You used to be a son or daughter, a brother or sister, a mother or father. And in that used-to-be space there is deep emptiness, loneliness, and sorrow. It's a place we all dwell for a while. But it's not a place in which we are meant to remain.

The path forward includes exploring the unseen elements of grief. With this book, pastor Chuck Elliott and counselor Ashley Elliott light the way to a better future. Sharing biblical advice and proven mental health techniques, they help you learn how to fully feel and face your grief, hold onto your faith, and develop healthy ways to see yourself, your life, and your loved ones. They offer coping strategies for when moving forward seems impossible and guide you toward building new thinking patterns that will result in true healing and growth.

Maybe you "used to be" something--but there is a future waiting when you "will be" once more.

Author/Artist Review

Tell us a little about yourself.  Chuck and I are authors and speakers. I'm a counselor, and Chuck is a pastor. We minister together at church and across the country and even get to do some ministry with our kids from time to time! We have three very active boys who love to be outside!

What was your motivation behind this project?  We faced some losses and realized that others seem to experience some similar happenings but often don't talk about it. So we wrote this book to hit on lots of different types of losses (not just death) and the impact it has upon our identity!

What do you hope folks will gain from this project?  We hope that people will find strength here. And, we pray that they will be able to take that strength to others! This ripple effect with shift our world!

How were you personally impacted by working on this project?  There were some incredibly tough moments as I wrote and edited this project. You see, we share some of the toughest moments of our lives and express ways we messed up along the journey. It was tough to immerse ourselves in the project, but now that it's finished and we're hearing about the impact it's making, it feels worthwhile!

Who are your influences, sources of inspiration or favorite authors / artists?  We love Craig Groeschel, Jenny Allen, Jon Acuff, Carey Nieuwhof, Patrick Lencioni, and many more! We love the YouVersion Bible App and RightNow Media, and we love worship music. From Passion Worship to Red Rocks Worship and on to KB and Andy Mineo, the music is almost always blaring in our house! One of our boys even sleeps with K-Love playing!

Anything else you'd like readers / listeners to know:  If you've tried counseling and it didn't work, this book offers many tools that I personally use with my clients! If you've opted out of church and aren't exactly sure why (or perhaps you know it's because of pain), this book offers some practical fill-in-the-blank prompts to help you explore your relationship with God/church. If you feel anxious or depressed and opt to isolate rather than deal with social encounters, check out our chapter that will help you establish an exit strategy that might empower you to go to that gathering, apply for a new job, etc! If you have a loved one who has gone through divorce, job loss, or has earned new unwanted titles, this book is a wonderful gift that will keep giving them life if they apply the content!
