Publisher's Description

From Rachel Hauck, the award-winning author of The Wedding Dress, comes Nashville Sweetheart, the story of a talented young woman with a gift, a dream, and something to prove in the most musical—and competitive—city in America.

The media mystery that is superstar Aubrey James is about to be unraveled—one memory at a time.

At thirty years old, Aubrey James has been at the top of country charts for over a decade; but as the daughter of gospel icons Ray and Myra James, she was in the public eye long before her own success. Aubrey James knows Nashville stardom.

Though her parents’ untimely death gave Aubrey the kind of tragic legacy that Nashville royalty is made of, she would have preferred keeping her family . . . and the faith she lost somewhere along the way. Now she exists in a guarded, private world, letting nothing in, not even love.

But when her music director betrays Aubrey’s trust with a smear campaign of tabloid interviews, the star knows the time has come to go public with her private story for the first time. And when her Inside NashVegas interviewer turns out to be a man from her past—a man she’d hoped to forget—this interview gets complicated fast.

The music diva’s guarded heart is about to become a distant memory.

From Rachel Hauck, author of Nashville Dreams and The Wedding Dress, Nashville Sweetheart is a wild ride through the whirlwind of Nashville stardom, the political show that is the music business, and the secret faith that can fortify even the most tragic family ties.

*Nashville Sweetheart was originally published as Diva NashVegas.

Aubrey is the daughter of gospel music superstars, and she has done very well for herself in the country music world. Although she is the current queen of country, she tries to maintain a very private life. As this story unfolds, we get to peek in on Aubrey during the summer that changed her life.

I loved everything about this book. We get to see the private life of a big name celebrity. Although this book is fiction, I would be willing to bet it is very close to the real life of most of the people we all oogle over all the time.

Watching God get a hold of Aubrey through some of the most unlikely of places really points out that God can work anywhere, any time, and through any one.

Watching professional relationships, personal relationships, and Aubrey's own relationship with herself unfold was awesome. I loved this book and I would recommend for sure.

    Fun read!

Despite being "the queen of country," Aubrey James hasn't had the easiest life. She agrees to a series of interviews with a local news program and begins an introspective journey digging deeper into her life. She definitely gets more than she bargained for when she agreed to the interview!

Nashville Sweetheart gives readers a glimpse at the behind the scenes life of a country music star. There's a great romantic thread running throughout, but mostly this book focuses on learning about yourself and finding your true self in Christ. At times, I was confused by how the story was laid out. It's definitely a unique style. But once I got used to it, I really enjoyed it. Nashville Sweetheart reminds me a lot of the TV show Nashville (but a cleaner version) and was a really fun read! [4 stars]

NOTE: Nashville Sweetheart was originally published in 2007 with the title Diva NashVegas.

Aubrey James is a country music star who rocketed to stardom at the age of eighteen. She is the daughter of the late great gospel singers, Ray & Myra James. Her parents were killed in a car accident when she was sixteen years old. She was in the foster care system for a few months until her mother's friend, Connie, got guardianship of her. Aubrey's life is always in the tabloids. Rather true or not. Her former music director does an interview and tells all the things that Aubrey had confided in her over the years. She makes Aubrey out to be not very nice person. Aubrey is convinced to do an in depth interview to show what type of person she really is. She will do it but only to the local show, Inside NashVegas.

Enter Scott Vaughn from Inside NashVegas. Scott had met Aubrey several years ago and she does not have a very good opinion of him. As the interview progresses, we see a friendship forming between Scott and Aubrey. Scott's questions makes Aubrey stop and think about her life.

I can say I really enjoyed this book. Aubrey has to make some tough decisions in her life. She has strayed from the faith of her youth. Living with her fiancé is one example. She does come to realize she doesn't love him. She is kind of wimpy when it comes to some of the things Car does. When she does turn back to the Lord there is no lightning strike from the sky, but a gradual yearning in her heart. In my opinion Scott is the one that draws out the true Aubrey and not the diva Aubrey that every sees.

I would recommend this book to everyone except maybe teen girls as there was not enough emphasis on Aubrey living with her fiancé as being wrong. Toward the end of the book Aubrey did acknowledge she was not living her life the way the Lord would want her to. I am giving this book four start instead of five for that reason.

I was given this book by the publisher for an honest review. I was not compensated in any way.

Sometimes when I'm reviewing books I seem to run into a theme. Recently I was reading a couple of mysteries in a row. This month is seems to be books based in Nashville. The books are very different from each other (the last one I reviewed was a historical romance and the one I'm reviewing today is contemporary). Now, I'm not complaining. As a transplant to Nashville, I love being here. I love this city. It's a large city that doesn't feel like a large city. In "Nashville Sweetheart," Rachel Hauck gives readers a glimpse into Nashville and the country music scene.

Aubrey James is a country music diva and she knows it. She has been in the music industry for years, but has avoided doing media interviews. Her parents were Gospel music pioneers who died tragically in a car accident when she was a teenager and, at thirty, she is still grieving their loss. Her crazy schedule has caused her to need a break over the summer, but a disgruntled music director, a new record label president, and a fiancé are making her life even more stressful. Aubrey James agrees to do a local interview. Scott Vaughn works for a local television program, "Inside NashVegas," and it tapped to do the interview with Aubrey. While interviewing her over the course of a month, Scott sees Aubrey's tenderness and sincerity, something not many people get to see because Aubrey James tries to keep her private life private.

The book is a little older so there are some dated references in there is you know Nashville (some places that have changed names or are no longer around), but that doesn't detract from the story. I wasn't sure what to think of Aubrey James at first but as I got to know her as she told her story, she became more likable and you want her to succeed. This one is definitely another winner by Rachel Hauck.

The orphaned daughter of famous gospel singers Ray and Myra James, Aubrey James never set out to become a multi-platinum, award-winning, country singer. Yet, here she is, hounded by the paparazzi, trashed in the tabloids, betrayed by a personal friend within her crew, and surprisingly engaged to a true Nashville blue blood. How did she get here? Is here where she wants to be? And what happened to the faith her parents lived for?

I recently found Rachel Hauck through her installment of the Year of Weddings, and then followed that into the Royal Wedding series. I've found her books to be fun, engaging, and quick-paced, and this one was no different. I could feel Aubrey's struggle with where her life had taken her and how she had been changed by all that had befallen her. She was a lovably imperfect character, with real flaws, and real life decisions gone wrong. She fully admitted her faults and sought her way out from them by looking to the Man her parents taught her about.

I give this book 4 stars, and now have a need to go find the rest of the series so that I can read more about some of the side characters in this story. Just a friendly warning, because this is the sort of thing that bothers me - it does appear that these books have been re-titled and re-released as ebooks. From what I can tell, Nashville Sweetheart was formerly titled Diva NashVegas, and was #2 in the NashVegas Series.

I received a copy of this ebook from the publisher, Thomas Nelson, as part of their BookLook program, in exchange for my honest review.
