I don't know how Zondervan gets away with calling this Top Grain Leather or is that just a marketing tool (trick) to fool people into thinking they are getting Top Grain Cowhide instead? What you have here is not technically Bonded Leather but pretty darn close. It has the same thickness (thin) and feel (stiff) as Bonded Leather. For sure this is not Top Grain Cowhide which is thicker and supple. In any case, besides that disappointing aspect I was hoping the text type would be larger (barely) than Foundations Publications' NASB who by the way offers a thick, genuine Top Grain Cowhide binding at a much cheaper price. The only reason I purchased this bible (Zonderzan) that it was on sale. I would have never paid full price ($60) for it. I use to work in a Christian bookstore and Zondervan use to sell quality bound bibles. I still have a Zondervan pigskin binding AMP bible that is over 40 years old and is still in great shape. I guess it is like everything else today, you make a poorer product to get more profit. I apologize for such a negative review, this is probably a fine bible if you are willing to overlook the cheap binding.
Leather quality, print and paper quality are very nice, however, I am unhappy with the concordance included in the back of this version of the NASB. I have not completed a full scan of the concordance, however, I have noticed a major flaw, which is enough for a negative review.
For some reason, the concordance in this Zondervan version of the NASB is missing all words pertaining to Justification. There are no entries for the following:
I have an older Lockman Foundation NASB (1998 printing) which includes entries for all of these wordsin the concordance, as do every other version of the Bible I own with a concordance, ESV, NIV, NKJV, and even TNIV. If you are looking for a reference Bible with a usable concordance, I do not recommend this one.
Have had one for 2 years. This bible is very easy to read. For a smaller bible there is a lot of white space and the titles for the verses are very well done. I like the size and take it to church every week. Also this bible has some nice charts.
I needed a replacement bible for my Cambridge NASB Pitt-Minion bible which just fell apart on me, (as well as the leather being sort of weak also,) and this Zondervan NASB Reference Bible in the Top Grain leather is a SUPREME replacement! Love the fact that it's in verse format and not paragraph format, as well as having center-column references, words of Christ in red, solid top-grain leather, (a little stiff, but will soften within time and usage,) Book introductions, clear readable typeface, and a smyth-sewn binding, as well as a ribbon marker. For the price, you can't ask for a better bible in a wonderful NASB translation.
