They still love pictures books that tell their favourite Bible stories, even though they know how the stories go. The My Lift-the-Flap BIBLE Stories tells stories from the Bible with an added surprise element.
The My Lift-the-Flap BIBLE Stories from Tommy Nelson Publishers, is an adorable childrens board book of 13 Bible stories from the Old and New Testaments. Each page has a number of flap that your child can lift as you read the story. Each story is short, told in a single paragraph or two. The book is geared toward toddlers, but my 5 and 7 year old still enjoyed exploring each flap.
Each story is illustrated using cute characters and bright colours that catch the eye. Our favourite illustration for the story of Jonah and the Big Fish. When you open the mouth of the big fish you can see how hungry he is ready to eat whatever is in front of him! I wonder where Jonah went?
The each page of the book is sturdy, perfect for little hands to hold. The flaps may not stand up to as much abuse as the pages. I would recommend going through the book first and opening up the flaps so they are easier for your little one to grab onto. The flaps are a fun interactive element to the book. Many of the flaps help tell the story, like the mouth of the hungry fish in the story of Jonah. Other flaps are tiny, like some of the little fish flaps, and dont add anything to the story. The kids still have fun opening them, but I was left wondering what the purpose of them were.
The stories are stories that my children recognize and still love to hear. I love that there is a reference to the scripture next to the title in each one. Now that my children are older they love to go and read the story directly from the Bible. Often the stories they read in the Bible are difficult for them to understand, even from the NIV version so I love that this book gives a short overview of what they are going to read.
The stories that are included are:
The Creation (Genesis 1-2)
Noahs Amazing Ark (Genesis 6)
The Exodus (Exodus 14)
Daniel in the Lions Den (Daniel 6)
Jonah and the Big Fish (Jonah 1-3)
The Birth of Jesus (Luke 2)
The Wedding in Cana (John 2)
Through the Roof to Jesus (Luke 5)
Jesus Feeds Five Thousand (John 6)
Jesus Walks on Water (Matthew 14)
The Last Meal of Jesus (Luke 22)
Jesus is Alive! (Matthew 28)
The Big Catch of Fish (John 21)
The My Lift-the-Flap BIBLE Stories would be a wonderful addition to any library. It is a great book to help your little one grow in the faith.

Michael Berghof and Gill Guile have given us what may be one of the best introductory Bible story books for young children. The book contains thirteen short stories from both the Old and New Testaments that are boldly and colorfully illustrated and will capture the attention of young children. As children become a bit more able to grasp and refine their fine motor skills, there are dozens of flaps for them to open and discover more of the illustrations. I love it!
Filled with children's favorites for generations, the sturdy board book contains the following: Noah and the ark, the Exodus, Daniel and the Lion's Den, Jonah, Jesus' birth, the wedding at Cana, the lame man being healed by Jesus, feeding the five thousand, Jesus walking on water, the Last Supper, the Resurrection, and the big catch of fish when Jesus reveals Himself to his disciples. Through these stories, young ones will be introduced to Biblical principles such as God's will, His provision, obedience, how God can use any willing soul, and the miracles of Jesus among other things. And the stories are brief enough for even the youngest to sit still. Literally, I can read each page in about a minute or less but the scripture reference is included if you want to read the same story to older children of if your child has more questions. The best fun is opening the flaps to see what awaits. I think this book a perfect gift for any child ages 3 months through four years of age.
I did receive this book free from the publisher in exchange for an honest review and am in no way obligated to write a positive one. Two thumbs up!!!!
