Series: Deep Haven
Unknown to her tiny town of Deep Haven, Isadora Presley spends her nights as Miss Foolish Heart, the star host of a syndicated talk radio show. Millions tune in to hear her advice on dating and falling in love, unaware that shes never really done either. Issys ratings soar when it seems shes falling in love on-air with a caller. A caller she doesnt realize lives right next door.
Caleb Knight served a tour of duty in Iraq and paid a steep price. The last thing he wants is pity, so he hides his disability and moves to Deep Haven to land his dream job as the high school football coach. When his beautiful neighbor catches his eye, in a moment of desperation he seeks advice from My Foolish Heart, the show that airs before his favorite sports broadcast.
Before he knows it, Caleb finds himself drawn to the hostand more confused than ever. Is his perfect love the woman on the radio . . . Or the one next door?
We follow the stories of three Deep Haven localsIsadora, Lucy, and Seband a new face in town, Caleb. Isadora, the anonymous host of the radio show My Foolish Heart and daughter of the famous Coach Presley, is still struggling with the haunting memory of the accident two years ago that took her mothers life and stripped her father of his health, strength, and coaching career, a memory that keeps Issy confined mostly to her house. Lucy, Issy"s closest friend and only connection to the outside world, is trying to find the Lucy who used to be, the Lucy she sees in the eyes of her townspeople, the Lucy before Seb. The "Sebanator" is returning to Deep Haven in hopes of escaping his failures and finding the old glory he had by applying to be the new football coach, hoping his past success as the star quarterback will be enough to carry him. But Caleb, new in town and Issys new next door neighbor, is also applying for the coaching position in hopes of achieving his dream of a small-town life.
After a few quarrels with Issy regarding a dog that doesn't even belong to him, Caleb hears the last few minutes of the My Foolish Heart broadcast and decides to call, searching for advice about how he can get on better terms with his neighbor. He recognizes in her a fear and a pain that he, himself, has experienced. Meanwhile, Isadora is slowly falling for her new neighbor, but as Miss Foolish Heart, she is also strangely attracted to BoyNextDoor, a recent caller who sought her advice about a girl with a disability. Even with her rules, Issy is confused about what to do, about what is safest.
Susan May Warren does an excellent job of bringing her characters to life with real relationships developing, concerns building, and fears being overcome. There is humor, conflict, and deep personal reflection. Warren's dialogue captures the individual voices and personalities of her characters, and the pace provides a calm, though often dramatic, small-town atmosphere. I strongly recommend this book, especially to anyone who has ever needed the assurance of God's perfect love, which casts out fear (1 John 4:18). Nicole E. Dynes, www.ChristianBookPreviews.com
Crystal5 Stars Out Of 5Unique Twist to Romance!April 30, 2017CrystalQuality: 0Value: 0Meets Expectations: 0Warren has done it again with this complex, heartwarming story of facing fears, forgiveness, and love's potential! Issy Presley lives a double life. By day the town's people know her as a recluse struggling with PTSD after a tragic car accident killed her mother and severely wounded her beloved father. At night however, millions adore her as "Miss Foolish Heart", on-air personality and host of a call-in radio show dishing out advice about dating and love. Caleb Knight has had his own share of heartache after enduring vicious injuries from his military service in Iraq. Caleb moves to Deep Haven hoping to land his dream job as the high school's new football coach when he notices Issy, his beautiful neighbor. When his attempts at capturing Issy's attention fail, Caleb calls in to the radio show on a whim seeking advice from Miss Foolish Heart as a caller coined as "BoyNextDoor". BoyNextDoor's calls become a frequent occurrence, creating an on-air attraction with Miss Foolish Heart. Meanwhile, Caleb and Issy finally begin spending time together and a spark of attraction begins without either knowing the other's relation to the radio show. After a series of events, Caleb discovers that Miss Foolish Heart and Issy are one in the same and confronts her bearing his heart and feelings. Both have to overcome their fears and insecurities as they take tentative steps toward love.
As is common with Warren's writings, readers will be delighted to find a second story plot threaded through the novel involving Lucy- Issy's best friend- and Seb- Lucy's once-high-school-sweetheart. After many years of being gone, Seb returns to Deep Haven as a broken man hoping to redeem himself. Seb and Caleb soon learn that they are competing for the same coaching position sparring a friendly, "may the best man win" rivalry. Seb also hopes to reconnect with Lucy, but first he has to break down the barriers surrounding her affections she erected after Seb broke her heart in high school.
I enjoyed this book thoroughly and love the way Warren effortlessly takes multiple plot lines and intertwines them seamlessly. The two romances had equally challenging hurdles, and each character was haunted by past events that impeded their futures. Readers will embrace the imperfect characters who find hope in God's never ending grace.

HomeSchool Mom of 4The Hot Dry DesertAge: 25-34Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5Charming, Inspiring Contemporary FictionAugust 29, 2015HomeSchool Mom of 4The Hot Dry DesertAge: 25-34Gender: femaleQuality: 0Value: 0Meets Expectations: 0Susan May Warren is my favorite contemporary fiction writer which I discovered with this book. Usually, I am bored with anything that isn't historical fiction, but her characters are very well-rounded and real. The hero in this book is a man who suffers from PTSD which really interested me as a military wife and veteran. The story was a bit predictable but not too much so, and I liked seeing how the author showed both Isadora and Caleb overcoming their issues and finding healing. I don't generally like a story that features "wounded" people but Susan May Warren writes amazingly and the story was both charming and inspiring, and I also love the Deep Haven setting of her most recent novels. Highly recommend!
Helen MAge: 55-65Gender: Female5 Stars Out Of 5Another great book in the seriesMay 13, 2015Helen MAge: 55-65Gender: FemaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5My Foolish Heart is book 4 in the Deep Haven series by Susan May Warren.
Issy was raise in Deep Haven, the daughter of the football coach. She was with her parents when they were hit by a semi. Her father was severely injured and is living in a nursing facility. Her mother was killed in the crash that changed Issy's life. Issy suffers panic attacks and is afraid to leave her home. She developed a career for herself by having an online talk show giving romance advice.
Caleb, a disabled veteran, is new in town. He is renting a house next to Issy. He has been hired to teach at the high school and is one of 2 candidates for the coaching position. Caleb calls into the talk show and gets advice. Neither of them knows they are talking to each other.
As in the other stories, there is a dog that is one of the main characters. And characters from past books are brought in as well. This is a really good series. The books are really easy reading, just enough mystery to make me want to keep reading them.

The Quiet EccentricCanadaAge: Under 18Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5I think I've got a foolish heart...July 18, 2014The Quiet EccentricCanadaAge: Under 18Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5I'd always wanted to read this. Ever since I saw the cover and read the synopsis, I knew it seemed like the perfect story for one of my romantic moods. You know, the kind that makes you crave chocolate and a late night.
Anyways... I was right. For a whole lazy Sunday afternoon, I did nothing but drink cold lemonade and lay under my desk with a pile of pillows, while I let Susan May Warren take me to Deep Haven. I don't think I moved until the book was done.
It wasn't anything extraordinary. This was a story of four broken people trying to get their life back on track. However, it was sprinkled with just enough humor, depth, and romance to make it a journey worth taking.
I wouldn't recommend this book to anyone who's looking to discover the next piece of classic Christian fiction. But if you ever find yourself needing a piece of fun, contemporary romance, then don't miss this novel. I may look back and wonder why I was crazy enough to give this five stars, but something about this book just got to me. I don't know, maybe I've got a foolish heart too...
