"My Favorite Things," Rodgers and Hammerstein's beloved song from The Sound of Music, has captured the hearts of children young and old for generations. Its magical images -- cream-colored ponies and girls in white dresses -- paired with its lilting rhyme, never fail to delight.
Now acclaimed illustrator Renee Graef gives this classic song new meaning with heartwarming full-color illustrations Of a loving family and their life throughout the course of a year. Complete with the score of the song, My Favorite Things is both a wonderful book for families to share and a gorgeous keepsake to cherish.
Richard Rodgers (composer 1902-1979) and Oscar Hammerstein II (librettist/lyricist, 1895-1960) joined forces in 1943 to create the most successful partnership in American musical theater. Their first musical, Oklahoma!, was also the first of a new genre, the musical play, blending Rodgers' sophisticated style of musical comedy with Hammerstein's innovations in opera. Oklahoma! was followed by Carousel, South Pacific, The King and I, and The Sound of Music, among others. Collectively the Rodgers and Hammerstein musicals earned thirty-four Tony Awards, fifteen Academy Awards, two Pulitzer Prizes, two Grammy Awards, and an Emmy Award.
Renée Graef received her bachelor's degree in art from the University of Wisconsin at Madison. She is the illustrator of numerous titles in the Little House publishing program, as well as Rodgers and Hammerstein's My Favorite Things and E.T.A Hoffman's The Nutcracker, adapted by Janet Schulman. She lives in Cedarburg, Wisconsin, with her husband and two children.
