Author/Artist Review

Author: Lauren Bryan Robinson
Located in: Casper, WY
Submitted: June 21, 2016

Tell us a little about yourself.  I'm a Christian country girl who grew up in Montana and now lives in Casper, WY, with my husband and our dog. My passions in life include spending time in God's Word, writing just about anything God calls me to write, riding and driving horses, hiking in the mountains, and running outside.

What was your motivation behind this project?  After working with animals practically all of my life, by the time I entered college I had discovered how much we can learn about the Christian faith through animals. I also counseled at a Christian camp for a few summers, during which I realized children's desperate need for Christ and I came to understand better how to teach them about the God who loves them so much. While in college, I felt God calling me to write a devotional that would help youth translate their passion for horses into a passion for Christ.

What do you hope folks will gain from this project?  I want readers of all ages, but especially youth, to discover how exciting, purposeful, and worthwhile it is to "ride with Christ" through all of life. Many people are passionate about horses, and I hope they can discover that same passion for Christ. By relating horses to faith in simple terms, my goal is to help readers understand Scripture better and enter into an active relationship with Christ.

How were you personally impacted by working on this project?  For me, it was incredible to see God guiding the entire writing and publication process. He planted in my heart the seeds of devotional ideas during my sophomore year of college, and then allowed me to use those ideas in book form for my senior thesis, which was an unexpected opportunity because I was studying English in a secular, rather anti-Christian university program. The professor I worked with on the project was a Christian as well who was as crazy about horses as I was and who had experience with the age category I was targeting. Furthermore, the manuscript was accepted for publication shortly after the spring semester of my senior year. God has seen the book through from concept to publication -- His hand has been beautifully obvious.

Who are your influences, sources of inspiration or favorite authors / artists?  My mom, who sees God at work in every aspect of life and who instilled in me my love for Christ and critters. The horses I've read about or worked with in life, which provided the material for this book. The kids at camp who instilled in me a passion for youth and a desire to teach them about God. Jules Verne and Leo Tolstoy, two classical authors who changed my life with the principles subtly conveyed in their books; it is because of their examples that I aspire to change lives with my writing.

Anything else you'd like readers / listeners to know:  While this book is targeted for preteens and early teens, adults who have read the book have also found it encouraging and insightful. In order to engage readers with Scripture and with Christ, rather than simply let them skim a chapter and put the book down, each daily devotional challenges readers to look up Scripture, answer thought-provoking questions, complete activities pertaining to the theme of the day, and establish habits that will help them to grow in their Christian faith.
