Publisher's Description

In this look into a lifelong dream of adventure, Lauralee Bliss or "Blissful" (her trail name) reflects on the 4,000 mile journey she undertook with her teen son, hiking the Appalachian Trail from Georgia to Maine, and then again from Maine to Georgia as a solo hiker. Through the retelling of events from the hikes, Blissful compares the adventure to life's journey. Encountering the miraculous through the numerous challenges she faced, she found a new understanding of the Creator and His creation.

When I first started this book, I wasn't sure what I'd get out of it. You see, I'm not a hiker, or an outdoors person (at least not anymore). I'm a chronically ill, highly fatigued person--my out of doors days are over. But, I used to fish with my dad, and we'd hike up to the mouth of creeks and rivers for miles for the fun of it. And this book helped me remember those trips and the desire to be out in God's creation for the sake of being out in it and seeing His glory. Surprisingly, I found many things I could identify with: getting up in the morning when you ache all over, persevering through the day when all you want to do it huddle down and pretend it doesn't exist, striving for something better, yearning to reach a goal you feel impassioned about, but aren't sure you'll succeed (and trying anyway). I feel those things in my daily life--even if I never put a foot to a mountain. I appreciated the open honesty of the author to reach for her dreams, and yet not be sure she would reach it. I loved learning about the 'trail angels', those instant life-long friends who know what you're going through and share few common ideals or bonds except to finish, and finish well. I found this an interesting as well as inspirational read of a woman over coming obstacles, embracing hardships, and gathering her strength from the Lord to continue on, one trail, one hill, even one bolder at a time.
