The Resources for Biblical Living booklet series addresses a wide range of practical issues in a straightforward and biblical manner. This one on motherhood offers hope for discouraged moms. Author Brenda Payne reminds mothers that their call to motherhood is blessed by God. She encourages moms to rely on the power of the Gospel during frustrating and problematic times.
All children are a gift from God; not just the easy or good ones! The most important factor in your mothering, though, is a vibrant personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Trials are to be expected yet no temptation is new. Your fight with discouragement is common to mothers throughout the ages. Discouragement can result from your own failures, for which God provides forgiveness upon repentance, and from your childs shortcomings - yet God expects you to deal with your children using biblical goals and methods. Faithful even if unfruitful! Gods purpose in every trial is to mature your faith.
Brenda Payne is a biblical counselor at Eastwood Presbyterian Church, where she works under the direction of Lou Priolo. She has been certified by the National Association of Nouthetic Counselors.
Brenda Payne has written an excellent booklet that gives true, biblical hope to discouraged mothers. She has skillfully woven several key biblical principles into very practical advice. This booklet is easy to read and one that I highly recommend.
Brenda Payne knows the joys and valleys of motherhood, and she offers solid biblical advice. For example, moms are sinners parenting sinners. God is sovereign even while moms are responsible. Your best parenting efforts are futile without God. Parenting is a ministry of repetitionThis booklet is manna for the weary soul and hope when the ship of parenting has crashed on the rocks
Many of todays mothering books are fluffy and sentimental, and they dont help the mom brought to her knees by the trials of parenting. Brenda Paynes booklet is counter cultural. It counsels moms to confront their own sin, confront their child's sin, and view child-raising trials with an eternal perspective. I strongly recommend.
