SandyF5 Stars Out Of 5What a Character!March 6, 2017SandyFQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5Anyone not familiar with Jean Turanos' writing will be trilled with her style from the first page. She captures your imagination and has you falling in love with the characters from the start. Some writers portray women of "society" in the gilded age as weak and helpless or lacking depth but not Jean. Thank you for showing even ladies of the modern era that strong independent ladies can accomplish much (even if you find your self in a most peculiar circumstance!)
Mackenzie Carol5 Stars Out Of 5One of Jen's BestOctober 17, 2016Mackenzie CarolQuality: 0Value: 0Meets Expectations: 0A Most Peculiar Circumstance is the second book in Jen Turanos Ladies of Distinction series, coming after A Change of Fortune. I have already read this novel once I while back, but since I never finished the series, I decided to read it (and the first book) again before finally reading the third and fourth installments. Since Im a really, really, REALLY big fan of Jens, it didnt bother me a bit to read this book again. And, as was the case with the first book, I think I loved this even more the second time around! I knew that I really enjoyed it, but I didnt remember it being so funny! Im definitely super glad Im reading these again, and I cant wait to read books three and four!
Arabella Beckett is by far one of my favorite characters in the whole series. She is so sweet, and energetic, and just a little bit troublesome, and I couldnt help loving her from the first moment I met her. She got into so many scrapes throughout the course of this story, and I couldnt help but also love her adventurous spirit. Outside of that though, she is also full of compassion for those in need, and I loved watching her attempt to help them better their lives. But by far, my most favorite thing is her relationship with Theodore. Their arguments throughout the beginning of this novel are completely hysterical, and I just loved watching their feelings develop.
Theodore Wilder was NOT a character I loved from the very beginning. But, to be fair, I think that was the point. I did like him as a person, I just couldnt stand his views on women and their place in society and in the home. Plus, when you think about it, Arabellaand Eliza and Agatha--didnt like this about him either, so its not like Im the only one. However, Theodore quickly grew on me, and it wasnt long before I realized he most definitely was the perfect man for Arabella, so I was eventually able to overlook his misguided beginnings.
All in all, I really loved this book, and while it already had a place on my all-time favorites list, I am even more sure after reading it again that it definitely belongs there. I cant imagine not giving it all five bookshelves, and I cant wait to read the rest of the series! Ive already started A Talent for Trouble, and since I already absolutely love Grayson, I know this is another one I will enjoy. I cant say enough about how fantastic of a writer Jen is, and Im so glad I discovered her novels a couple of years ago, as I cant get enough of them! This one is highly recommended!
bntyle015 Stars Out Of 5A book to read over and over again!January 9, 2016bntyle01Quality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5Ms. Arabella Beckett, an advocate and spokeswoman for the womens suffrage movement, has found herself in a most peculiar circumstance. She has found herself arrested and in the middle of a dangerous scheme. Mr. Theodore Wilder, an easy on the eyes private investigator, was hired by her family to find the independent Ms. Beckett and bring her home for her brothers wedding. He discovers her in the small town jail and soon realizes that Ms. Beckett is in a great deal of danger. Mr. Wilder continues his investigation into the events that led up to Ms. Becketts arrest after they returned home all while trying to keep her from finding her from any more harm, which in Ms. Becketts case is quite a task in itself. His antiquated views of women and Arabellas free-spirited nature tend to collide as the sense of an imminent danger lurks around her.
A Most Peculiar Circumstance, is the second novel in Jen Turanos Ladies of Distinction series, and she exceeded my expectations once again. She brings the characters to life in a fast pace, easy read romance that is full of adventure. This book brings back past characters as well as introduces to new characters; it appears she does so effortlessly and with ease. I was worried that as the series evolved that either some of my favorite characters would be forgotten or it would become too complicated trying to keep the characters straight, this was not at all the case. I cant wait to read the next adventure that awaits these ladies!

It's what drew me to read it. Although, I found out after reading it that there is a book before it and two more after it. I can't wait to read them. This book was funny in a lot of places.
ShannahAge: 25-34Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5Fast paced and witty!March 7, 2014ShannahAge: 25-34Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5I absolutely loved this book! Jen Turano has such a way with words. This fast-paced book is packed with humor, witty dialogue, and intriguing characters. The mystery and danger surrounding the plot kept me guessing until the very end. The romance between Arabella and Theodore was hilarious to watch as each battled their feelings for the other. The story is very well written and I could picture the characters as they are interacting with one another and getting into one scrape after another.
Arabella's character is well-written. The struggle she goes through with her self-worth is very natural, especially for a woman. I could relate to it. Theodore's character is also well-written. The progression of his thoughts and character development felt natural and not rushed. Arabella and Theordore find themselves in one "peculiar" circumstance after another, especially their romance! The secondary characters add depth to the story and also provide humorous side stories of their own.
Arabella has to learn, throughout the story, that sometimes it's hard not to judge another's circumstance. It's one thing to talk about caring for others and trying to help them, it's another thing altogether to feel compassion for them and really get to understand them. God wants us to feel that compassion for one another, especially when He calls us to the work we're doing.
Overall, this story was hilarious, enjoyable, and well-written. I really enjoy this author's writings and definitely look forward to the rest of this series!
