Series: Tales from the Goose Creek B&B
In this first book of the Tales from the Goose Creek B&B, you'll fall in love with a small town that feels like coming home. Its quirky characters and their many shenanigans will make you laugh out loud as they touch a place in your heart.
Even though retirement is still three years away, Al Richardson is counting the days. He anticipates many enjoyable years in which every day feels like Saturday. But Al's wife, Millie, has different plans for their retirement. When she learns that a Victorian-era home is up for sale, Millie launches a full-blown campaign to convince Al that God's plan for them is to turn that house into a B&B.
But a B&B won't be the only change for the small Kentucky town. A new veterinarian has hung up her shingle, but she's only got one patientthe smelly dog belonging to her part-time receptionist. And sides are being taken in the issue of the water tower, which needs a new coat of paint...but no one can agree who should paint it.
The situation is coming to a head. Who could have imagined a town protest over a water tower? And who would believe it could culminate in an illegal parade?

"A delightful read. If you've lived in a small town, or even visited one, you'll know that Virginia Smith's story is spot on! I especially liked the variety of 'recipes' in the book, including lemon cake, dog biscuits, and creating a healthy crabitat among others. I want another Goose Creek book!

"The author draws the reader in with humor, intrigue, and believable characters. If you've ever lived in a small town, you'll be right at home. If not, it's time you tried small-town life. Why not start with the folks at Goose Creek? I'm looking forward to the next installment."

The characters are funny and sweet but most of all they are real. If you have ever lived in a small town you will see familiar faces.
Millie and Albert are now 10 years older than they were in Dr. Horatio vs. the Six-Toed Cat (Tales from the Goose Creek B&B), the bonus e-short story. They are starting to look forward to retirement. However, it becomes clear that they have a different view of what their retirement should look like. It was fun to watch them go back and forth in their battle of wills. I also enjoyed watching the new vet as she starts off on the wrong foot or should I say wrong cats foot.
I enjoyed this story as a whole, but I also enjoyed the stories inside the story. This story was funny without being ridiculous. But the author gives us more than a fun story, but she delves into relationship issues. She looks at small town America and the tendency to push away outsiders. She also looks at husband and wife relationships and father/daughter relationships. It was interesting and thought provoking.
I would buy this book for friends and family. I recommend this book to anyone who wants a light hearted story that has subtle messages about relationships.

From the Back Cover: Welcome to Goose Creek!
Al Richardson is perfectly content in his Goose Creek, Kentucky home. The village is charming, the neighbors are friendly, and retirement is only three years and sixty-three days away.
But changes are right around the corner for Goose Creek. Als wife, Millie, is hatching a plan to renovate an old Victorian eyesore and open a B&B. The new veterinarian is mystified when her only patient is Al and Millies smelly dog. And folks are starting to take sides over who should give the water tower a new coat of paintan issue that just might lead to an illegal parade?
Retirement or not, Al is about to get a lot busier than he bargained for.
A delightful, quirky comedy about a small town with a big heart.
Welcome to Goose Creek small town USA. When we came across America we were privileged to stop in a number of small towns and while we didnt get to stay long we stood long enough to know that we had been in a very pleasant place. Goose Creek is a very pleasant place. Al and Millie, as well as all the other supporting characters are some of the finest people you would ever want to meet. Ms. Smith really knows how to write not only the individuals that populate the town but the scenery and buildings as well. Just wait until you read what the Victorian mansion looks like you will be amazed. This is a fun story but it also looks at relationship issues especially between Millie and Al. I enjoyed this book a lot and am looking forward to the next book in this series from this highly talented author.

And Millie working to buy an old place to open a B & B. The friction between husband and wife so enjoyable to read.
Also enters Susan who buys a Vet Clinic. Small town people are hesitate to accept newcomers as I well know.
Then the town becomes divided over an issue. Millie hires Justin, who is an out of towner, and he has eyes for Susan.
The antics that happen to Susan help her clinic and get her known.
Young people are portrayed who struggle being able to make their own decisions.
I hope there are move books coming about Goose Creek.
