Pam BurkePotosi, MOAge: 55-65Gender: Female5 Stars Out Of 5Family and LoyaltyJanuary 24, 2019Pam BurkePotosi, MOAge: 55-65Gender: FemaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5Karen Witemeyer's More Than Meets the Eye is a very touching story of family, loyalty and faith. The characters are forced to make very difficult decisions when those issues come into conflict.
The story is a very engaging one, and the characters are complex and well-developed. They have to deal with both internal and external conflicts, even to the point of life-and-death situations. Long-held agendas are weighed against the reality of the present and dreams for the future. Faith and love play important roles in how all those pieces work out. And the play on words in the title of the book is a fun touch.
Thanks to Bethany House for providing a copy of More Than Meets the Eye. I am happy to share my own thoughts for this review.
Yvette K.5 Stars Out Of 5Wonderful start to the new Patchwork Family seriesDecember 4, 2018Yvette K.Quality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5After having loved Karen Witemeyer's previous series, and having both of the full length novels become new favorites, I was just a bit worried that More Than Meets the Eye would not meet my expectations. And perhaps in part because I was worried, it exceeded them and is now another new favorite.
With a main female lead whose sunny nature persists no matter the obstacles or attitudes, this is a bit of a grown up Pollyanna story but with greater depth of character. Evangeline Hamilton's effect on her adopted brothers, and on the hardness that Logan Fowler tries to maintain in his pursuit of the one he blames for his father's death, her dogged and determined good cheer is what lifts this story from the typical historical romance.
This is a novel that will delight the long time fan of Karen Witemeyer's writing, and would also be a wonderful introduction to her signature style of historical fiction that mixes adventure, faith, and fun. Highly recommended and I am anxiously waiting for the next Patchwork Family novel.
This review refers to a finished copy I voluntarily received from the publisher. All opinions expressed are my own.

After the death of their parents, Evangeline and her brother Hamilton have been forced aboard the orphan train that is headed west. But being born with one brown eye and one blue eye Evangeline has lived all her life never looking anyone in their eyes for fear of what people would say. Tragedy strikes the train and Eva finds freedom with two other children and together they find love and family.
Logan Fowler has come to Pecan Gap to confront the man that had stolen his family's land and to get it back, but he ends up crossing paths with a beautiful young woman who's sweet and gentle nature who see's only the good in people, despite being a social outcast.
As with all her other book, the author has created a book filled with unique, well written characters that jump off the page at you and become characters that the reader can relate to. The plot while pretty predictable, had several twists to it and the author keep it moving along so that the reader doesn't get bored.
This was another engaging story from this wonderful author. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who loves historical/western fiction.
rkfall5 Stars Out Of 5More Than Meets the EyeOctober 27, 2018rkfallI really enjoy the writing of Karen Witemeyer. I find that she has a way with words and keeps her stories at a level that draws me in and I enjoy without all the stress. This story was another great one by her. The leading lady, all the sad things that she has had to face, it was quite a ride riding it with her. She has bullies in her life that make fun of her looks. She's left without family at such a young age and yet God provides for her. It's beautiful to watch how He does that and I'm convinced of their amazing family dynamic. The warnings of unforgiveness and revenge run deep in this book. Much to be learned in letting go and letting God. The romance was wonderful!
I received a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
Seasons of GraceAge: 35-44Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5One of my Favorite AuthorsSeptember 10, 2018Seasons of GraceAge: 35-44Gender: femaleFor those of you who love an author with a great sense of humor, who can write a story both serious and funny, then Karen is your gal! I have loved her books every since I read the first one. She is truly an amazing story teller.
This book caught my eye, not just for the beautiful cover, but also the story was intriguing. I loved how it started out with the orphan train. Historical settings are some of my favorite reads. Evangeline is a young girl with two different colored eyes so no one wants her. Her brother is doing his best not to let them get split up. When tragedy strikes, two unlikely characters take her under their wing. As the story unfolds, Evangeline is now all grown up, and a very vibrant, wonderful young woman, ready to take on any challenge.
I found this book to be inspirational, as Eva doesn't let the fact that people see her as a threat with her odd eyes to get the best of her. She perseveres to become the very best person she can be and takes to others who seem to have a troubled past. Karen kept her same sense of humor and wit as she wrote this book that she flourishes at. Her characters have a way of wielding their hold on you as she engages you in the story. You won't want to put it down until you find out what happens.
I was blessed with a copy of this book courtesy of Bethany House. I wasn't asked to write a positive review. All opinions are my own and I would highly recommend this book.
