The boys' antics have earned them a riotous reputation in their small town of Cedar Mills. When Matt's former mother-in-law, a powerful lawyer and judge, threatens to sue for custody, Matts sure she means it.
Enter Matts new neighbor, Elle Drake. Shes made a successful career for herself as an artist and potter, but after a disastrously public break-up with her millionaire ex-husband, shes back in Cedar Mills to lick her wounds and set her roughed-up self-image to rights.
After Matt's oldest son causes damage in Elles yard, her common-sense approach forces the boy to take responsibility for his actionsand gives Matt the wake-up call he desperately needs.
Initially adversarial, attraction grows between Matt and Elle as they get to know one another. Matt appreciates Elle's effect on his sons, and when he gets cornered into having a Sunday breakfast with Elle and the boys, he has fun for the first time in...well, he can't remember when.
Everything changes when Elle hears the boys grandmother berating Matt in public and threatening to take the boys. She defuses the situation by pretending to be Matt's fiancée and the boys' future stepmother. When Matt decides it's a brilliant plan and kisses her to seal the deal, Elle knows he's crazy. But he's also sweet, funny, engaging, sexy and strong, which isn't exactly a bad thing!
The newest Christian romance by Ruth Logan Herne combines heart and humor with a dose of small-town reality.
Carole JarvisJonesboro, GeorgiaAge: 55-65Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5Poignant, heartwarming, and just plain funApril 14, 2016Carole JarvisJonesboro, GeorgiaAge: 55-65Gender: femaleQuality: 0Value: 0Meets Expectations: 0Ruth Logan Herne writes the kind of stories that I like to read stories with a sweet poignancy that will resonate with any reader. Ive read two of her books this week, completely different on the surface, but with the same heartfelt emotion and rich, complex characterization. Im not sure how to describe it, but theres that special something that elevates Ruths writing in my opinion. Maybe it has something to do with the fact that, instead of standing on the outside watching the action, Ruth draws you right into their lives.
More Than a Promise is a heartwarming love story with great chemistry and conflicting emotions between Matt and Elle, but its so much more. One of my reviewer friends, Kav, described it as rollicking fun, achingly sweet and peppered with large doses of love and laughter and Id have to agree. There are several laugh-out-loud moments, coupled with themes of forgiveness, overcoming the grip of fear caused by past events, and acceptance.
Matt and Elle are sympathetic, appealing characters. Matt works too hard and long, carries the burden of financial responsibilities in the family business, is often clueless as a dad, but loves his boys with all thats in him. Elle is the no nonsense type, willing to meet things head on, felt that shed been born the ugly duckling in a family of swans, and brought laughter back into the lives of Matt and his boys. Elle is a most memorable character. I loved her wisdom, courage to confront, and her giving heart.
And then theres Matts boys. Todd, Randy and Amos just leap off the printed page and straight into your heart, making me want to wrap my arms around each of them. Todd, the oldest, is a lost soul and in need of a friend. Little Amos is gentle, kind and giving. But Randy carried his anger like a coat of armor, still and unyielding and the way he defended a classmate was amazing. All three boys are heart stealers, and Elles gift for connecting with them is precious.
I particularly loved how a good bit of this story takes place after Matt and Elle marry, for I enjoy going beyond the I do and seeing couples grow closer as they deal with conflict and draw nearer to God at the same time. The Catholic faith of this family is a very real and natural part of this story.
More Than a Promise is an uplifting, true-to-life story that pulls at the heartstrings an exquisite read. 5+ stars, best of the best. Highly recommended.
Thank you to Singing Librarian Tours for providing a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

More than a promise will take you on a roller coaster ride of emotions. There is so much happening in this most wonderful book. Characters that you will love. There are many things going on from the heartache, pain, anger, love, faith trust and hurt. I was captured hook, line and sinker with this gripping story. RSSMILES5 Stars Out Of 5Humor, tender family moments, and swoon worthy romance!April 13, 2016RSSMILESQuality: 0Value: 0Meets Expectations: 0I loved this book!! I've always loved stories with single parents with precocious children and a love interest that can charm and handle those children. This book has THREE children, all with different personalities, and Elle manages to charm them all.
I loved Elle's personality. She's been so wounded but she's still a fighter and stands up for what she believes. Although she hasn't had children of her own, she has worked with them and has a good grasp of how to teach them to behave and be respectful. She's got a big heart when it comes to children. And she has also not allowed her hurts to keep her from her artistry which the author describes wonderfully! I wish I could buy some of her art! :)
I also loved Matt's character. A single father with the huge responsibility of raising three boys as well as keeping his father's business afloat, Matt has a LOT to deal with. He has a lot to learn when it comes to raising his boys and he's a little lost in trying to keep them out of trouble. But he's a hard worker and he loves his boys with his whole heart. When he comes in contact with Elle, he's a little conflicted at first because she stands up to him about the boys' behavior. But he quickly changes his mind when they respond positively to her. I loved how loving he is to Elle and how quickly he allows himself to fall in love with her.
There was so much to enjoy about this book. Moments of hilarity as well as hair raising fear because of the antics of the boys. Moments of tender family interactions as well as not-so tender family interactions. And definitely moments of swoon worthy romance! :)

Britney Adams4 Stars Out Of 5More Than a PromiseApril 13, 2016Britney AdamsQuality: 0Value: 0Meets Expectations: 0Mayhem and madness, love and laughter abound! Ruth Logan Herne always captures the intricacies of family life in her stories, and More Than a Promise is certainly no exception!
The three Wilmot boys are rambunctious rascals, and their dad Matt has his hands full as a single parent and a business man. If the Wilmots were a hashtag, theyd rock the trending now list daily. When next door neighbor Elle Drake finds herself in the midst of the Wilmot chaos, her life takes a turn that she never expected.
I enjoyed the humor and heart of this story and reveled in the relationships and romance that developed. More Than a Promise is another delightfully heartwarming story from a wonderfully talented author!

MariIllinoisAge: 55-65Gender: Female5 Stars Out Of 5Amazing story of faith, family and friendsApril 12, 2016MariIllinoisAge: 55-65Gender: FemaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5More Than a Promise by Ruth Logan Herne is outstanding! What a delightful heartwarming read that captivated me--where I did not want to stop reading until I was finished. The characters were so real that I want to go visit Cedar Mills to connect with them.
Elle Drake is back in Cedar Mills after a heartbreaking publicized divorce from her ex-husband. Elle is taken with Matt Wilmot's three young sons when they come in late for church one Sunday. Each of the Wilmot's boys is charming in their own personal way and personality. Matt is a little overwhelmed at times, since he's trying to save the family business, with all the havoc his sons can create. It was not easy being a single parent while grieving over the loss of his beloved wife.
What will Elle do when Todd Wilmot, the oldest boy, does damage to her property with one of his father's Bobcat earthmover? After all, Elle did not know Matt and his sons lived across the field from her. Elle was busy with her own business and enjoyed the quietness of her new location.
Ruth has created a story that will tug at your heartstrings. There are so many twists and turns with faith, love, forgiveness, heartbreak, times of happiness, trust, hope and determination in the lives of all the characters. More Than a Promise is an uplifting and true to life book that readers will not want to miss out on reading.
