AnnelrBrighton, MIAge: Over 65Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5Face to Face with God in AlaskaApril 19, 2017AnnelrBrighton, MIAge: Over 65Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5Of Moose and Men by Torry Martin is a humorous look at snippets of life in Alaska. He shares stories of being chased by goats, dive-bombed by goshawks, intimidated by a mama moose protecting her twin newborns and terrorized by a bear. Mishaps with vehicles in the snow and ice (he had to be towed three times in one day!) and silly antics on the electric horse in Walmart are stories that had me laughing out loud. Martin writes with honesty about his flaws and connects with his readers because we have all been in situations where we need God to intervene. And with each comedic tale, and with the accounts of answered prayers, the author has a practical, spiritual application for life. Reminders that God does care and is aware of our circumstances, and He will not give up on us.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from Book Club network. A favorable review was not required and opinions are my own.
lcjohnson1988IndianaAge: 45-54Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5men would love this book!March 31, 2017lcjohnson1988IndianaAge: 45-54Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5This book is about the hilarious misadventures of Torry Martin and his friend Rob in the beautiful but dangerous state of Alaska. I say dangerous, but only because of the bears and other predators that live in the wilderness. In each hilarious misadventure that Torry reiterates, he finds God working in mysterious ways. For this hippie, his trials work to make his spiritual life stronger in his walk with God, which is an inspiration to all of us (however hilarious).
I would recommend this book to others for its clean humor and insights that God can use anyone, even a misfit like Torry Martin to use his gifts to inspire others to find God. At the end of each chapter, he makes some excellent points such as at the end of the final chapter he states that Jesus doesnt promise an easy life once you have accepted Him, but things are easier to bear knowing we will be with Him in the end. I like also how he writes this book with a wonderful sense of humor. I hope others who read this book not only read it for a good laugh, but also find the spiritual insights the author(s) give that in the midst of lifes craziness our Heavenly Father is always with us.
