A wonderful read! I went into this book with low expectations and a bit of procrastination because I wasn't overly fond of the cover. I know... I know... never judge a book by its cover - but who doesn't?

Anyways, I started the book last night and finished it at some wee hour of the morning. I think I stayed up later than the crickets as I eagerly flipped through the pages of this fast-paced, humorous, and thoroughly entertaining mystery.

For starts, I just loved Serena. She is hysterical. She's a self proclaimed cat-lady and spinster (at what...25?) and yet has a whole cast of hilarious and delightful bachelors falling all over themselves trying to "help" her throughout the story. I loved the angst between her male admirers and how oblivious Serena is to her charm... or so she says. For a spinster, she's delightfully good at manipulating the men around her to get their help by flashing that big smile of hers.

I also loved Serena's family. Her "Murder-She-Wrote" grandmother made my sides hurt from laughing so hard. Old, opinionated, and completely (like...COMPLETELY) crazy, her grandmother cracked me up. I was so glad she a main character throughout the story. I also thought Serena's mom was awesome. You can just feel her mom's total mortification over her beautiful daughter's career choice to chase criminals instead of give her grandbabies. And it just made me laugh at how her mom baked her a cake every time Serena survived a mission....like she was celebrating Serena's daily success on not dying.

I really can't wait for the next book. A great read!

My first introduction to Sandra Orchard's writing was her Port Aster Secrets series. It is considered romantic suspense and I really liked all three of the books. A Fool and His Monet is the first in a new series and a new genre. It is considered a mystery but I would further classify it as a cozy mystery.

While I preferred the writing in the romantic suspense books this wasn't bad. There were some very clever interactions and situations and I enjoyed the characters. I think any of my hesitancy with this book is purely a matter of preference on my part. I felt like at times it wasn't always clear whether this was a serious mystery or more of a lighthearted one. I am looking forward to reading the rest of the series and discovering if it settles into a more expected pattern.

A Fool and His Monet would be the perfect book for a day at the beach or the pool. It would also work well as a lighter selection for your book club. The story isn't terribly complex so it leaves you with a feeling of refreshment rather than heaviness. I consider this type of book as a palette cleanser. It's a nice change of pace when you've been reading heavier subject matter.

I received a copy of this book to facilitate my review.

I don't know if this book would be labeled as a cozy mystery or not but that's what it seemed like to me. Full of good natured humor as well as adventure and mystery Sandra Orchard has filled the pages with an exciting mystery.

Main character Serena Jones is looking for an art thief. With several suspects to choose from, the author does a great job of keeping you guessing. This of course makes the book extremely interesting and keeps you reading. It took me a while to figure out who-done-it. Sandra incorporated quite a few interesting characters in her novel. One of them being her sweet Aunt Martha, a humorous older woman bent on helping Serena solve the mystery, and constantly putting herself obliviously in danger. Then there's Nate, Serena's apartment superintendent who is always showing up at coincidental times. And last but not least her co worker, Tanner, a real looker, but he has some years on her. He is amazing though at always coming to her rescue, and being in the right places at the right times. Serena has a hard time choosing between the two, as each has admirable and surprising qualities. I myself couldn't really make up my mind, which one I wanted her to end up with.

Even after the mystery is solved, you won't want the book to end. Sandra leaves a bit of a cliffhanger with a continuing unsolved mystery surrounding Serena's grandfather, and conflicting feelings over the men in her life. So I am eagerly awaiting the sequel coming this fall.

I was blessed with a complimentary copy of this book by Revell in exchange for my honest opinion.

A Fool & His Monet was a more light-hearted mystery novel. Infused with a strong dose of humour and a keep-you-guessing mystery, A Fool & His Monet is an easy read that would appeal to a wider variety of readers who like a little mystery, but not heavy suspense or dark subject matter.

Serena Jones is a likeable heroine who I found admirable in that she would push through situations that gave her pause or made her nervous (her elevator phobia aside). She is very tenacious, not willing to let any stone go unturned in her quest for the truth.

The only downside to the novel was I felt the motives behind the criminal mastermind could have used a little more oomph. The crimes were elaborate to the extent that it felt as if the motives didnt quite meet the severity of the crimes. But of course, criminals arent always the most reasonable of individuals! (lol)

Overall, A Fool & His Monet, is an easy read, laugh-out-loud funny at times, and held a twisty mystery that kept me entertained and intrigued until the very end. Ill be interested in reading about Serenas next escapades, and Im very happy that I wont have to wait too long. The next instalment is due out in the fall of this year woohoo!
