Publisher's Description

Do you know the truth behind the dressing up and trick-or-treating that are important parts of this holiday? If not, you need to read this book with your child.

Halloween comes every year—and so does the question: "Mommy, Why Don’t We Celebrate Halloween?"

Most likely, your child has either asked you this, or will ask you in the future. This is why you should be ready to explain Halloween to a kid, sharing the dangers of Halloween and discussing Halloween as a pagan holiday.

This book will help your child have a Christian perspective on Halloween, making it clear why you don’t celebrate the holiday. It reveals, in story form, the truth behind the activities that have become such an accepted part of Halloween traditions.

Children who read this book and talk about it with their parents will learn how the "fun" of Halloween harms them. They will also learn what to say to others who do not understand the true meaning of Halloween.

We love this book and highly recommend it. I read a review earlier on this book and it broke my heart. The reviewer felt that it was a poor book because it dealt with the origins of Halloween but we have turned around to celebrate Easter and Christmas. That is the problem with the reviewer. If we as Christians get back to the roots of our bible then our desires would be to abstain from evil. We do not celebrate Easter... (they would sacrifice their children to the Eastre goddess)... We can say we have changed certain holidays all we want but it comes down to who is your God? Is it the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob? God tells us to celebrate certain feasts that would last forever! Feast of Sukkot/Tabernacles is in the fall and many christians already celebrate this fall feast. We need to get back to our biblical, pure Feasts of the Lord! You will love this book it deals with dressing up, feeling left out, and emotional parts for the kiddos. it also deals with the icky parts of Halloween in a straight forward gentle way. This book is a great starting point for Christians. I highly recommend tjis book and have given it to friends.

This book caught my interest since I know many Christian families don't celebrate Halloween. I read through this book and was completely confused by the author. Did they do their research? Most of the main reasons were because the holiday started out as pagan, nonreligious, "evil", etc......well so did Christmas and Easter. We took those holidays and made them have a religious meaning behind them. Many Christians do the same with Halloween today like my family. I was hoping this book would have some good insight but instead it is just spreading misinformation.

While I feel this is a wonderful book, I am sorely disappointed that the cover art has been changed. The previous cover featured a child of color, and only people of color understand how difficult it is to find books for children of various ethnic backgrounds that feature images to which these children can relate and/or at least demonstrates the diversity of our world. I do not understand why the cover art was changed, but I am sorry to see that it has been. Otherwise, the book is a good tool for the Christian parent who is promoting a lifestyle without biblical compromise.

The book was going along great giving reason for why we don't celebrate. And then they had to go and ruin it by telling the kids they were replacing their not celebrating with going to a "Harvest Festival" at their church. My personal feelings believe that it doesn't matter what you call it, it is still celebrating Halloween. Maybe in some churches the Harvest Fest doesn't look like Halloween, but in our experiences people call it different things and yet they still dress up, do scary things or have Halloween decorations. I think going forward we will eliminate the last few pages of the story when we read this.
