Mommy Can't Feed The Baby?

Living with a long-term illness is challenging. When Simone Colwill, an Auckland mum, took immune suppressing drugs, she looked for a book to explain to her children why she could not breastfeed the new baby. Unable to find one, she used her experience as a radiographer to write "Mommy Can't Feed the Baby." Simone explains it this way, "I was put on immune suppressing drugs to help manage Crohn's disease. My specialist told me not to breastfeed as the drugs go through the breastmilk and could harm the baby. I noticed not many people knew that sometimes women can't breastfeed for medical reasons! I decided to write the book to promote awareness and help women to discuss this important issue. At the end of the story is a second story, an author interview, which helps the reader consider how best to respond to a woman who can't breastfeed for medical reasons. I wanted to write a book that a woman could take to a mother and baby group or explain this issue to friends and family."
