Lois5 Stars Out Of 5Moments with the SaviorNovember 25, 2016LoisQuality: 4Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5I LOVE this devotional book! I don't want to put it down. I want to read and re-read the same devotion over and over but, at the same time, I am eager to read the next one, expecting it to be as wonderful as the one I just read. Although the author takes some literary liberties in fleshing out the "stories," he brings the true Scripture to life. I feel like I'm right there with the people who encounter Jesus. I am giving this devotional to several friends and relatives for Christmas.
My only concern is how well the binding is going to hold up. So far, so good.
Debbie from ChristFocusHarrison, ARAge: 35-44Gender: female3 Stars Out Of 5Fictional short stories based on Jesus' lifeOctober 21, 2016Debbie from ChristFocusHarrison, ARAge: 35-44Gender: femaleQuality: 3Value: 3Meets Expectations: 3This book is a 66 day devotional. It starts by quoting several verses from the Bible that set the scene. The author then created a fictional short story based upon the verses and invented details to fill the scene out. Theses scenes were usually focused on Jesus. I had expected these devotionals to help a person slow down and consider the scene, but I felt like they were more like a novel or movie. I didn't always agree with the details included since they were based more upon tradition or imagination than historical accuracy. Each devotional ended with a fairly long prayer that was based on the verses for that day. I was disappointed that I didn't get many insights from the devotional.
tickmenotKansas CityGender: female5 Stars Out Of 5How Do You Say Relax?October 19, 2016tickmenotKansas CityGender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5Although this amazing book is considered a devotional, it is so much more. It is heavy, both literally and figuratively, because there is a lot packed into its pages. The beautiful padded cover has strong pages made of premium paper that are easy to turn, the entire book is very well made. There are sixty-six topics that range from Mary being told by the Angel Gabriel that she would give birth to the Savior, to the subjects of forgiveness, guilt and Jesus' Ascension.
Each chapter contains three areas. The first section has the scripture that will be studied. It is followed by the meditation section which discusses the Bible passage in an interesting, and easy to read way. The final section is a prayer that applies the scripture and discussion to the reader in today's world.
All of the chapters makes good points about the chosen scripture, and is done in a way that will capture your attention. Many of the points made about familiar incidents in the Bible were ones I had never considered before. That made this book very interesting for me, and I think anyone reading it would have the same experience.
Each topic will make you think, and the words will give you peace. Because this is such a pretty book to look at, with such insight between its pages, it would make a lovely gift. I highly recommend this five-plus star book to anyone wanting a closer look at the Bible, or to get new insights into the heart of God. You will be blessed by it.

bookwomanjoanOak Harbor, WAAge: 55-65Gender: female3 Stars Out Of 5Fictional embellishments to gospel stories includedOctober 7, 2016bookwomanjoanOak Harbor, WAAge: 55-65Gender: femaleQuality: 3Value: 4Meets Expectations: 2This book is a reissue of the devotional originally published in 1998. Gire looks at 66 moments in the earthly life of Christ. The Scripture is given and then his comments are added. Each reaching ends with a prayer. Gire desires that readers see the beauty of Christ and fall in love with Him all over again.
Gire sometimes adds historical information in his meditation and at other times cultural details. Sometimes he seems to merely retell the Scripture story with an additional emotional perspective. The devotionals vary in length, some as long as ten pages while others are as short as five pages.
I must add a word of caution to potential readers of this book. Gire sometimes uses his imagination and adds fictional emotions or details to an event that are not given in the Scripture. An example is his meditation on Jesus' temptation in the desert. Gire writes of Jesus, He remembers the smoke from the altar, wisping toward heaven like a prayer. Jesus settles in a shallow cave scalloped out of the hillside. His angular features look as if they have been chiseled from a slab of rock. (63-65) It makes for a captivating devotional but it is fiction and that disturbs me. Readers should be aware that Gire sometimes adds to the Scripture scenes fictional details that are not part of the original event as recorded.
That being said, there are some good lessons in the meditations Gire provides. One example is the lesson from the genealogy of Christ. That God's purposes are not thwarted by our humanity, however weak and wayward it may be. (17)
The strength of this book is the prayers at the end of each reading. They are great for applying the truth of the scene from Jesus' life. Gire has written them to help readers discern what the Spirit might be saying to them. He hopes they are a stepping off point for further heartfelt prayers to God.
This book might be a good choice for a two month study on the life of Christ. Readers must be aware that Gire has added fictional embellishments to the Scripture stories, something that I do not like.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher. My comments are an honest and independent review.
ciciAge: 25-34Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5Moments with JesusOctober 5, 2016ciciAge: 25-34Gender: femaleQuality: 0Value: 0Meets Expectations: 0With tons of information about Him I would have thought can there be another book about Him and still be inspiring. Yes! I was grabbed from the first moment to the last with the latest book Moments with the Savior by Ken Gire. It is exactly as the title states, moments with Jesus, and you will devour them as quickly and lovingly as I did. I may have reread the book already and it still is as powerful the second like the first. I could not put this book down because not only do we get to learn more about Jesus but Gire gives wonderful scriptures and prayers with each moment. As a scripture devotee those came as pure delight and treasures to enjoy when ever I need inspiration. I received a copy for this review from book look bloggers and all opinions are my own.
