John Dixon3 Stars Out Of 5MEV BibleApril 9, 2017John DixonQuality: 0Value: 0Meets Expectations: 0Received the paperback version today- always quick ship by CB. I like what I can 'see' so far as a hand-out bible for a generation that has difficulty with the text of the AV. I prefer the AV (KJV) over all others and use it daily as well as a licensed lay reader in church.
Besides the obvious disadvantage of a tiny 7-8 point text, the other glaring problem is it cannot be truthfully called a "KJV" without the Apocrypha and as such it is the "readers digest version." While this is based on Textus Receptus (thank God) manuscript it is incomplete. I see the dedication to the Queen in the front which is all well and good- as an Anglican myself I would love to see Passio add the Apocrypha. In doing that our traditional churches in the USA would likely be interested in purchasing in quantity for Christian Ed and use with our daily Lectionary in the Book of Common Prayer.
Odd that the version acknowledges Anglicanism in its preface but creates a "KJV" that is unusable for Anglican daily devotions of Morning and Evening Prayer without the Apocrypha!
Hope to see that rectified.
L.G.1 Stars Out Of 5Good Translation - hard to readOctober 19, 2016L.G.Quality: 0Value: 0Meets Expectations: 0I was hoping for a slightly larger font - this one is typical of the give away paperbacks from other translations. I won't buy them as so many people can't read them.
TomInJaxAge: 55-65Gender: male2 Stars Out Of 5Really? Readable? You're kidding right?February 1, 2016TomInJaxAge: 55-65Gender: maleQuality: 3Value: 2Meets Expectations: 2I ordered 3 of these as samples for outreach bibles. They came today and was was very disappointed. I have pocket bibles with larger text than this. The description indicates that the text is a "Highly readable 7-point text size". Nope! Not at all. CBD's note in the product information (Text Size: 6 Point) is more accurate. I took my trusty font comparison sheet and estimated the type to be no more than 6.25 points. Not 7 point.
The New Testament is only 3/16 of an inch (5 mm)! The entire bible not much thicker than a New Testament only bible normally is.
Product Quality: 3 - It is a nice paperback, but average.
Product Value: 2 - Value does not equal price. If it was usable at the price they are selling for I would have given it a 5 and purchased several cases for outreach.
Meets Expectations: 2 - I was expecting something that could be read by people with "normal" eyesight, not just people with perfect vision.
I have been trying to find a good outreach bible to hand out that people can read easily. The test should be easy to understand (like NIV, NLT, and others), but it also needs to be a normal or larger font. This isn't it.
If you have ever seen a very small compact bible and the text was very, very small - the type is like that. Some of the pocket bibles have bigger type. For example the Holman Large Print Compact bibles have much larger type and are more readable! I ended up buying 96 NIV outreach bibles with "Larger Print" which is 9 point type.
The MEV makes a very readable faux leather bible at an affordable price, but they do not have a good outreach bible (yet?).
Dave H.Craley, PaAge: 45-54Gender: Male3 Stars Out Of 5MEV "economy" Bible.June 19, 2015Dave H.Craley, PaAge: 45-54Gender: MaleQuality: 3Value: 4Meets Expectations: 3Ok, so I have written reviews of 2 other of the MEV Bibles thus far, so I just may as well go ahead & do this one now as well. To be quite honest, I was somewhat disappointed with this one. I DO love the MEV a lot, & I believe that the version in itself has quite a good & long success ahead of it, however, this particular edition is not quite the awesome quality of the other ones that I now own in the MEV line. I am glad that I only purchased this as a lightweight "take-along" Bible, as it fits nicely in the front zipper pocket of my vinyl lunch bag, so I can enjoy the MEV when I am all alone the few overnight hours that I clean a large fitness facility a few nights a week. but the print is just sooooo small in this Bible, that I am glad that the facility I clean has very bright lighting so I can see it when I sit down on a break! The description states that this is 'highly readable' 7 point font. I'm very sorry, but I do beg to differ on that claim! It's rather of a more 'all the focus that your eyes can possibly muster' 6 point font, & even that may be pushing it! Now as far as the paper is concerned, it is plain & simple newspaper stock. & where the pages meet the glued binding, it is so tight up against it that there are actually something like "wrinkly waves", for lack of a better terminology here, in the middle sections of all of the pages! You have to go through the Bible a few pages at a time & really press them down, & run the edge of your hand along the whole length of the spine line to flatten them out some, & even this only works to barely rectify the problem! It is somewhat frustrating. Sure it is lightweight & thin, & a good manageable size, but here the cons just outweigh the pros with this edition! I have something to say regarding this, & all of the other very cheaply produced "ministry" Bibles that there are out there:,.....These types of Bibles are distributed very widely around the globe to many people in the hopes that the recipient actually READS it, correct? It even says that on the last page of this MEV edition, come to think of it! Now how do many of the ministries who pass these out actually expect many of the recipients to read such a very small print, & to also comfortably navigate many of the other ailments associated with these types of Bibles?! Let's be honest here & say that many of them unfortunately DO get tossed into trash cans!! I have actually seen this happen myself once a few years ago as I was helping my Church then to pass out these cheap types of Bibles! A person may take one look, & immediately lose all interest because of print size primarily, as well as perhaps other reasons. Many transient people have poor eyesight anyhow, because they cannot afford good optical care, or any other good health services. This is a VERY unfortunate fact of life! But also, I believe that the message that people may be getting here as well is that "Hey, this is all we value your eternal salvation with God, as well as the peace & hope of your eternal soul, so here is a very cheap 2 dollar barely readable Bible for you. God bless & good luck!" I am just saying that there just HAS to be a better quality Bible that can be efficiently produced that will make those who receive them actually WANT to read them! Some form of universal cooperation between ministries & publishers must be reached first, if you are ever going to effectively reach THEM! So better quality mass-produced, economical ministry outreach Bibles must become a tangible reality! Because all truth be told, ones like this one I am now reviewing just will NOT continue to produce any form of maximized ministerial effectiveness among the majority of recipients!! I would only recommend this to a friend, or anyone else who just simply do not have sufficient financial means to acquire a more excellent edition, & who REALLY wants the MEV Bible! Thank you.
