This book ranks high in my list of all-time favorite stories. The descriptions are completely thrilling; I can retreat to Assateague Island and feel the wind in my hair like Maureen- or see the Spanish Galleon like Paul. Grandma and Grandpa Beebe are real that I would recognize them if I met them on the street! The book wouldn't be complete without the illustrations, which are as much a part of the story as the words. The talents of Marguerite Henry and Wesley Dennis are shown at their best in this classic book.

This is a great book. My granddaughter actually had to have it for her homeschool history cirriculum, She was thrilled because she loves horses & her history study was horses, She loved the book, exciting, read it in one day. Teaches a lesson about responsibility.

Misty of Chincoteague is a wonderful story about a boy and a girl and some wonderful wild ponies of the Virginia islands. I have one of the older books. The older books have more pictures!
