In MIRACLES & MOMENTS OF GRACE, Nancy Kennedy brings together a notable collection of compelling first-person stories which come from the family and military doctors, OB/GYNs, dentists, and missionary doctors who care for people across this nation and beyond. These doctors are eyewitnesses to amazing displays of divine intervention, whether in small moments of grace or through events experienced as miracles. Their stories range from rescuing victims of the 9/11
terrorist attack on the Pentagon to the surprisingly joyful reaction of a mother who delivered a Down Syndrome baby, and from a dentist relating how his work on a missions trip touches the life of a Mongolian woman, to a hospice doctor
sharing how a terrible secret kept for 50 years tortured a man in his final days.

Luckily, the book was made available for review from Leafwood Publishers.
In Miracles & Moments of Grace: Inspiring Stories from Doctors, Kennedy has compiled 50 stories from doctors from all walks of medicine. Each story is unique and touching. Perhaps my favorite was the story of the new mother who had just given birth to a child with Down Syndrome. Dr. Eaker told the story of having to "break the news" to this mother. Her response: "Isn't God great!" This mother had something in her life that made her believe that God had chosen her to be the mother of this child because she would love her for who she was.
Also included in this book are stories of doctors who experienced both healing and loss of their patients, stories of doctors seeing the humanity of their patients instead of their problems, and doctors who themselves (or a loved one) becomes the patient. Indeed, each story either shows how God works miracles or provides is amazing grace in times of need.
Like the first book in the MMG series, this book did not disappoint. I most definitely recommend this book and can't wait to see if there will be a third!
I received a free copy of this book from Leafwood Publishers for the purpose of my honest review.

Tell us a little about yourself. I am a journalist who has worked for magazines and newspapers, as well as in books. This book of inspiring stories from doctors is the second title in the Miracles & Moments of Grace series. The first book was a collection of stories from military chaplains. I have also written a book of inspiring weight loss success stories titled How We Did It. My first two books (Make It, Shake It, Mix It Up and Even the Sound Waves Obey Him) combined science activities with stories of faith for children. I spent several years in my "kitchen lab" with my husband and son as assistants, and we all survived! My next book is a collection of 50 stories told by moms, the third title in the Miracles & Moments of Grace series.
What was your motivation behind this project? After I wrote the book of stories from military chaplains, I became gripped with the desire to write more of these intense, life-and-death stories. Doctors and chaplains lead us through some of life's most challenging moments, and I wanted people to have a window into the soul of these inspiring men and women.
What do you hope folks will gain from this project? I hope these stories will touch the reader's heart as deeply as they did mine. I wept over them, laughed over them and gasped as I experienced the real presence of a God who guides the hands of the doctors who care for us here at home and around the world.
How were you personally impacted by working on this project? Writing this book has been a incredible time of spiritual uplift for me. It has been a privilege to share in these amazing moments of God's grace. I am grateful for the chance I've had to get to know these wonderful doctors whose mission is to comfort, treat and heal their fellow human beings.
Who are your influences, sources of inspiration or favorite authors / artists? I have always loved Studs Terkel's books of oral history -- The Good War, Working, Hard Times, American Dreams Lost and Found. In a time before the Internet provided a way for everyone to tell their story, Terkel gave the average American a voice. His epitaph, he once said, should be, "Curiosity did not kill this cat!"
Anything else you'd like readers / listeners to know: For this book, I had room for just 50 stories. They represent only a tiny fraction of the many, many inspiring stories doctors have to tell. I wish I could tell every one!
