Real discussions of repentance were absent cover-to-cover. Real discussions of healing were no where to be found. Disappointing when such talented authors had pen in hand.
Courtney4 Stars Out Of 5Miracle at the Higher Grounds CafeNovember 24, 2015CourtneyQuality: 4Value: 4Meets Expectations: 3Miracle at the Higher Grounds Cafe is a story about a woman in the middle of some personal and financial difficulties who learns to trust God in her decisions. A quick read from bestselling author Max Lucado, this novel really is reminiscent of the well-known Christmas film, It's a Wonderful Life (as suggested on the front cover). Chelsea Chambers decides to reinvent the family coffee shop amidst a public split from her famous husband. Searching for a miracle, she finds it within the walls of the coffee shop and the people that walk with her through the business's ups and downs.
Although I appreciated the easy read, I did find myself rolling my eyes at a few of the very stereotypical, cheesy moments in the plot. This is a highly predictable novel, but a fun read nonetheless. I do wish that there was more emphasis on Chelsea's walk with the Lord and her reliance on Him. Know that this book depicts the character's struggle to believe in the Lord and the power of prayer, but doesn't follow up much after she comes to realize that she cannot walk through life alone. I recommend this book to individuals who want an easy read that is light-hearted and entertaining.

Literarycat4 Stars Out Of 5Hmm A God Blog?October 20, 2015LiterarycatQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 4I really enjoyed this book. I am a huge Max Lucas fan and was excited to see he had a fictional novel out. This wasn't a normal Max book, but still had Max elements. The story follows a woman recently split from her husband who struggles to maintain a new life and a new/old business. This books shows her struggling to try and do everything on her own rather than leaning on God, and His attempts to bring her back.
I was a little disappointed there wasn't more of her learning to trust God or leaning on the power of prayer, but I guess that was the premise of the book until she finally decides to ask how she will do it on her own only to realize she isn't alone. I highly recommend this book to others, it was light and airy with some serious moments. Some moments brought a tear to my eyes. It really made me reflect on my own walk with God. The discussion questions at the end make for a great study group or book club.

It is a fictional book of hope and new beginnings. It is Max fashion of being a short and quick read, that gets you wrapped up in the story and you can easily relate to the characters. The story is about a recently single mom named Chelsea that comes back to her small home town to run her late grandmother's caf. When Chelsea realizes that the caf requires lots of hard work and not enough money, she needs to find a solution and fast or lose everything. Then comes the guardian angel Samuel, only no one knows he is an angel sent from GOD to assist......
I would recommend this book to all ages and everyone who wants a great read that you can't put down. It is a great book for a book study or light reading group, it has the right balance to have many conversations about angels, GOD and how you make your choices in life to change whatever you are going through. The book does give some questions at the end to use in any type of setting that want to explore the story more.
