Brenda5 Stars Out Of 55 Minutes with JesusDecember 14, 2016BrendaQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5I'm always looking for more ways to add joy into my life, so I was excited to be able to review this book. As soon as I read the introduction, I couldn't wait to read more! I read one chapter each night before bed, as my nightly devotions. I use the Scriptures as part of my bedtime prayers. Each chapter in the book was exactly what I needed to hear each night, it was amazing! It was all something I could relate to. The very first chapter talks about how to stop your anxious thoughts in the morning. I often wake up worrying about things, so this was what I needed to hear.
The Scriptures are also relevant to me. When my son was sick with pneumonia and bronchitis, I read, "You've kept track of my every toss and turn through the sleepless nights, each tear entered in your ledger, each ache written in your book." Psalm 56:8 The Message.
One of the chapters talks about finding joy in nature, which is something I love to do on my walks. Sometimes I walk during a sunset, but even if I don't I just enjoy looking at the beauty around me. I also love to sing, and music helps me when times are toughs. One of the phrases in the book is, "When joy seems impossible, sing out the goodness of God."
If you guys read my blog regularly, you know that I'm very busy, and one of the chapters talks about how all of that busyness can leave you hungry for joy. That is so true for me! Also it talks about if you've prayed for something so long, that you've lost some of your faith in the answer, God still answers you, it's just in His time.
I often worry about my kids, and one chapter says that if you entrust them to God, your hurt would be full of joy instead of worry. I could definitely use that. The last thing I'll mention, is that it talks about how children see things we often miss, and how if we stopped to appreciate those things too, we would be more full of joy. Since I'm around children all the time, I have a great opportunity to implement this one.

I kept it on a side table next to my rocking chair in my favorite "meet with Jesus" spot. I read one story per day after finishing my regular devotional and it truly did bring such joy. I also picked this book up to read an entry or two when I was feeling overwhelmed or weighed down by the day's events. 5 Minutes with Jesus shares practical stories from a friendly, knowledgable perspective. While I wouldn't let it take the place of my regular devotionals or devotional writers, it was great as an added source of joy in my day. I would recommend this book to anyone wanting something quick and easy to read to infuse daily joy in their day. I agree with another reviewer that it would make a great gift! It's inexpensive but a great book to have around.

A Fresh Infusion of joy
By Sheila Walsh with Sherri Gragg
This is not a typical devotional; the author starts with short stories, about 2 pages in length, and then offers some Bible verses, three or four, that go along with the stories. The main difference is that the subject of the stories is joy. Throughout this book, you will be able to see and feel the joy of Jesus. It will help you to live more joyfully and accept the gift of joy that only God can give. It is easy to read and understand. Some of the stories are inspiring and some are funny, but all are an encouragement to life. Grace, creation and other things can bring joy into our lives and the author shows Gods goodness and love in the stories shared.
I would recommend this book be added to your daily reading time and used with any other forms of daily readings that you may use. It would make a great gift for someone you wanted to share some joy.

Some days there appears to be few reasons to be joyful with what may be going on in your own life or perhaps simply the world around you. But those who know and love Jesus can have true joy no matter the circumstance.
Sheila Walsh has given us a tool to focus on Jesus and rejoice always in 5 Minutes with Jesus: A Fresh Infusion of Joy. Few of us can't spare five minutes in the morning, at least most mornings. While I can sometimes get overwhelmed with where to even begin in Scripture, Ms. Walsh has provided a tool I think I can use daily with typically four or five short scripture verses on a specific topic (such as illness/healing, rest, forgiveness, creation) followed by a short story taken from a life event, movie, scripture, etc. and a takeaway for the day to ponder. Her writing style makes it simple and understandable even for those of us whose brains may wake a bit slowly and three short pages in the 5 1/2" by 5 1/2" book makes a morning devotional accessible and possible for all.
This volume is book three in a series of 5 Minutes with Jesus. Makes a great give and is very affordable. I did receive this book free from the publisher in exchange for an honest review and am not obligated in any way to write a positive one. Thank you Ms. Walsh for sharing very applicable stories where joy may have not been the obvious choice but God miraculously provided.
