This book is slightly shorter than I would have hoped, but it makes up for this in it's clear and concise organization of the themes of patronage in culture, scripture, theology, and practice. It simultaneously makes the theory and perspective of scholars clear and provides relevant historical and contemporary examples. A highly accessible and fruitful work.

Good title on how to minister in a patronage relationship defined in the book as a "reciprocal relationship between a patron and a client". Many topics on the subject are addressed, including:

    - How patronage is expressed throughout the world.

    - Misconceptions of patronage.

    - Biblical examples of patronage.

    - How patronage correlates to theology (i.e., God, salvation, etc.).

    - How patronage, when properly applied, helps relationships.

Other areas are also covered. The book is well-written, easily understandable, flows smoothly from chapter to chapter, and contains many good practical suggestions and examples. Good and timely read where sensitivity and respect need to be applied in such a relationship.

I was given a review copy by IVP Academic in exchange for a fair review and appreciate the opportunity.
