Tell us a little about yourself. I was raised in a Christian home in Southern California, with a livelong desire to be obedient to God's call, whatever that may be. I spent 36 years working in public higher education, mostly as an administrator. I love being part of a local church body and I've done just about every job that exists- Sunday School teacher, Deacon Board, VBS, choir, etc. I seem to have two passions: education and missions. I have had the joy of serving as both a short-term and long-term missionary, having lived in Moscow, Russia and Bangkok, Thailand. Other countries I have served in include Honduras, Turkey, Mexico, Ukraine, and most recently Albania. Currently, I live in Riverside, California and am writing Bible study curriculum for the Women's Bible Study of my local church. My Pomeranian, Wolfie, is my constant companion and likes nothing more than to be on my lap.
What was your motivation behind this project? I started writing from a desire to go deeper into Scripture for myself, linking it to real life application in a way that would help me remember it better. What could be better than learning and sharing?
What do you hope folks will gain from this project? My hope is to draw people into a new, renewed, or increased love and appreciation for God's word. There is at least one selection from every book of the Bible and each one includes something that brings it close to home and applicable in our lives today. I hope people see that every portion of Scripture is meant for us, come to love it as I do, and love the God who has provided it.
How were you personally impacted by working on this project? I grew personally in my faith working on the project. I experienced a lot of joy in meditating and writing each selection. That others might read the book and focus on God's word, also gives me joy. It was satisfying to see my lifelong desire to write coming to fruition.
Who are your influences, sources of inspiration or favorite authors / artists? God's word has always had a great influence on my life. I am thankful for a godly mother who influenced my life profoundly by her example. I love classic writers of the past, like AW Tozer, CS Lewis, Oswald Chambers and Andrew Murray. I get inspired by reading biographies of those who, despite challenges, were faithful and greatly used by God, like Hudson Taylor, Jim and Elizabeth Elliott, and Henrietta Mears to name a few.
Anything else you'd like readers / listeners to know: A good thing about the daily readings is that they are very brief but give an overview of the entire Bible. This should be helpful for folks who are not in the habit yet of spending daily time in the Word. It is also helpful to see the application to life today. On the other hand, because the readings are very brief, so much more could be said regarding each of the selections, but my prayer is that each reader will see something new and exciting.
