"Few authors stir my emotions more deeply than Liz Curtis Higgs. One does not merely read her novels; one forges a bond so deep with her characters that reader and story become one, embarking on a journey that both inspires and transforms. But be warnedMine Is the Night will steal your night from the first page to the last, and never will hours be better spent. It was an absolute pleasure to read." - Julie Lessman, author of A Hope Undaunted
"Liz Curtis Higgs has once again combined her extraordinary skill as a storyteller with her elegant writing style to weave a grand Scottish tale, one that transports us back to the past in an emotional and unforgettable journey. Beautifully crafted and clearly written from the heart, Mine Is the Night just took its place among my other favorite novels from one of our most gifted historical authors. I was reluctant to see the story of the Kerr women endbut what an ending it is!" BJ Hoff, author of The Emerald Ballad
"Liz Curtis Higgs brings the book of Ruth to life in Jacobite Scotland with Mine Is the Night, a page-turning, emotionally intense, gloriously researched, and soul-stirring read. I was in eighteenth-century Scotland with characters I did not want to leave. Simply brilliant." - Linda Windsor, author of Healer

"Higgss latest richly detailed, leisurely paced novel about two women whose faith brings them closer together is a compelling tale of love, loss, faith, and forgiveness that is certain to please both inspirational readers and fans of well-crafted historical fiction." - Booklist
"Based on the story of Naomi and Ruth but vividly evoking its 18th-century Scottish setting, Here Burns My Candle is a memorable tale of divided loyalties and endurance in the face of tragedy, with flawed, convincing characters and abundant historical detail." - Historical Novels Review
"Higgs' latest novel is stunning in its prose and its historical accuracy. The author transports the reader to another time and place while paralleling the book of Ruth. Readers will anxiously await the second part of the story." - Romantic Times Inspirational top pick

Tell us a little about yourself. Since I awakened to the truth of God's redeeming love nearly 30 years ago, he has kindly opened many doors for me to share my heart on the stage and on the page. My husband, Bill, and I are the proud (and relieved!) parents of two college grads and live in an old farmhouse in Kentucky.
What was your motivation behind this project? First with Here Burns My Candle, and now with Mine Is the Night, it's been thrilling to explore the book of Ruth, then move this beloved story to 1745-46, a time of great turmoil in Scotland. The themes of loss and betrayal, restoration and redemption, speak to us across the centuries. As a woman who loves the Lord and his Word, it's pure JOY to minister to my readers through Story!
What do you hope folks will gain from this project? My prayer is, when they finish reading my two-book saga, they'll reach for their Bibles and read the book of Ruth with fresh eyes and open hearts. However handsome and brave our fictional hero may be (oh my, is he ever!), none can compare to our Redeemer and Savior, Jesus. Every book I've ever written has grace at the heart of it and hope at the end of it, and none more so than Mine Is the Night.
How were you personally impacted by working on this project? I learn so much when I climb into the heads and hearts of my characters. Marjory Kerr is a midlife, menopausal mother-in-law (I get all three!), who has been knocked off her high-and-mighty horse and must learn to adapt to a humbler situation. Watching Marjory grow spiritually made me examine my own life more closely. How would I behave if everything I owned and everyone I loved were taken from me? Could I learn to trust the Lord, as Marjory did?
Anything else you'd like readers / listeners to know: It's my dear readers who keep me writing! For my friends who love fiction, I hope to provide reading experiences that not only touch the heart, but also fill the mind and feed the spirit as only Christian fiction can. For those who prefer nonfiction, I strive to offer books that teach biblical truths with humor and honesty and heart. I truly love both genres and am grateful to have faithful readers in each camp. God bless you, many times over!
