This is a rather interesting format by which to introduce youngsters to a wide range of topics, including money management, biblical studies, obedience, servitude, and worship. His Mighty Warrior can be read in short segments or for long periods, since each set of facing pages presents its own letters addressing a stand-alone topic. Some of the vocabulary words are a bit advanced and sophisticated and will require the help of an older reader, but the lessons and messages are fundamental enough to have an impact of children of all ages. -- Dr. Dennis E. I was delighted to be able to review this book, because I have several other books by this author which take on the format of "love letters" from God written to His Princess Bride, His Princess Warrior, and His Princess.
Just as with the other books I own by the same author, this book is a padded hardcover, with thick pages that are beautifully illustrated. Levi particularly likes the antique-looking treasure map which takes up two pages in the beginning of the book.
Taking on a treasure-hunting, island, ship/boat, pirate adventurer theme, there are 50 letters addressed to: My Warrior, My Son, My Chosen Warrior, My Boy, My Brave Warrior, or My Mighty Warrior, about topics such as character, words, family, protection, anger, mother's love, fear, friends, caring for yourself, salvation, and many others. After a short letter signed by God in a way appropriate for the topic of discussion, there is a Bible verse, then on the opposing page, a prayer.
I love that the letters are short and to the point, and completely applicable to every young man's growth and development. I also love that the book is colorful and the illustrations full of adventure and exploration.
Levi will be enjoying this book for years to come, and I will be giving some as gifts to special young men as well.
*I received this book from WaterBrook Multnomah Publishing Group as a member of their Blogging for Book program in exchange for an honest review. No other compensation was received, and opinions are my own.

Thie little daily devotional is written at a early reader level and is just hard enough that my 3rd grader can read it but easy enough that my 1st grader will still and listen while not feeling like he isn't getting it.
The colorful pictures including a treasure map give add a fun element that helps keep the boys' attention. The book is a smaller size book which helped C on a recent road trip. He was able to pack the book in his book bag still leaving room for his school work.
Each daily devotion is written as a letter to the boys, building on the child of G_d connection. There is a relevant scripture and then a prayer they can pray.
I really appreciated everything being right there for us. I didn't have to go look up an additional verse for them and the simple prayer was one we could pray together.
One day we were reading it and the boys were having one of those very fidigity days so I had them draw a picture to go with it. Nathan tried to copy the colorful pictures in the book while Cameron dreamed up a continuation picture that could have been set along side the book and blended right in.
This has been one of the best devotional we have tried with the boys. Since it doesn't have days or dates we can use it daily or weekly and not feel like we have lost tract or failed some how.
If you have a little boy or boys this is a great gift book devotional.

I had not read Shepherd's previous book for girls, but I think I'm gonna have to get it after reading His Mighty Warrior. My son loves pirates and even though hes only 3, the devotions are short enough to keep his attention, yet they go deep enough to still be relevant to older elementary boys. What a great tool to have in bringing ours boys up knowing their Lord!
