Publisher's Description

Messy Beautiful Love delivers an incredible testimony of grace that offers hope for today’s marriages and a spark for rekindling love.

Love gets messy.

Financial problems, sickness, aging parents, a chronically unhappy spouse . . . trials will inevitably come that threaten your marriage. No matter how long you’ve been married or how strong your relationship is, sooner or later you are going to have a mess to clean up.

Messy Beautiful Love is about cleaning up messes God’s way, exchanging your ideas for His, and being prepared for both the best and the worst that marriage has to offer.

When you surrender your relationship to God, then and only then will you experience the blessing of marriage as He intended. This is the blessing of obedience.

Messy Beautiful Love is an invitation to that obedience. The cynical world says marriages don’t last, but God knows better. Tune out the world and tune in to Him. When you do that, a beautiful marriage is not only possible, it’s inevitable.

Only novels and movies make marriage happily ever. The truth is far from it. Marriages are often rough rides through uncharted badlands interspersed with valleys of great beauty and peace. The rough spots can be made a lot smoother when you follow God's recipes for husbands and wives.

Darlene begins her book with a shocking admission, one that could have torn her marriage to Michael Schacht but instead lifts it into the realms of God-given grace. It wouldn't have happened if the two of them hadn't been listening to God--especially Michael. His reaction was anything but the expected one.

It's a challenge. Doing things God's way isn't usually easy. A radmap through the badlands would be a good thing. Amazingly, this book does a pretty fair job of providing just that.

The raw honesty and practicality were refreshing. Every wife should read this just to know that real life "messy" love is so much more beautiful than what the media pretends love looks like.

I have followed Darlene's blog, Time Warp Wife, for years and absolutely love her writing style! So signing on to review this book was a no-brainer!

Darlene opens the book with the amazing testimony about how God saved her marriage. A raw, gut-wrenching story that reminds you how none of us are immune from our hearts straying from husband and home. She paints this wonderful, beautiful picture of grace that compares marriage with our Christian walk. The same grace that loves and forgives in marriage is that same grace we have received from Christ - that loves and forgives us every single day. A truly Christian marriage will mirror the relationship between Christ and his church.

From there she touches on the hard stuff: patience, surrendering our rights, submission, leadership, conflict, communication... Basically everything this stubborn, thick-headed girl needs to hear!

This book is written in an easy to read manner in down to earth language, goodness how I love that! Darlene shares wonderful stories from her own life that invite you into her home and make you feel like your chatting with her over coffee. This is a book I would recommend to every wife. It is a book for all women, no matter how long they've been married.

This book was provided to me free of charge by Book Look in return for my honest review. The opinions I have expressed are my own.

    SUMMARY:

As author and founder of an online Christian magazine, internet devotions and popular blog, Darlene Schacht tackles the complexities of marriage in her new book, Messy Beautiful Love. Financial problems, rambunctious children, aging parents, true exhaustion and mixed attitudes are just a few of the many issues affecting real-life marriages todaymaking it truly messy yet beautiful love

    A PENNY FOR MY THOUGHTS:

Attracted to the book by the cover (so cute), I soon became immersed in the subject matter and appreciated and acknowledged the writing too. With truthfulness, compassion and even humor, Darlene Schacht reminds us why we got married in the first placebefore life got in the way! Through Bible references and stories, personal accounts, explanations of gender differences (obviously a lot in the manner of thinking), and a challenge at the end of each chapter, Messy Beautiful Love is solid. Read in snippets or straight through, this book is wonderful for newlyweds or those sharing years of wedded togetherness. Thanks for the reminder to extend the grace we all need!

Darlene Schacht writes a blog called the Time-Warp Wife with the hopes to encourage women in their marriages. She is married to her husband of twenty plus years, Michael out in Canada. They have four kids, a bird and two dogs.

Darlene is an award winning and New York Times best-selling author Her book, The Virtuous Life of a Christ-Centered Wife is perhaps her most popular.

Darlene's latest book, Messy Beautiful Love shines a life on the.... well... "Messiness" of love. No marriage is perfect and Darlene is the first to admit it. Every marriage has to deal with money woes, sick kids, arguments, misunderstandings, late homework, new jobs, moving, questions and ... it seems... few answers.

So the question is, when life gets "messy" how do you clean it all up?

I think Darlene writes a very easy to read and worth reading book. Darlene writes in a way that highlights her own story while at the same time draws you in and forces you to wrestle with your own. Drawing from inspiration from the Bible, Darlene walks through her marriage and even her own darkness and shares some very intimate moments with the reader.

I think no matter what road you believe your marriage to be on, Darlene has written a book that is challenging and eye opening. No marriage is devoid of mess and we should all be reminded to head back to the scriptures time and time again to examine and re-examine the heart of God.

This would be a great book for counselors and marriage therapists to have on their book shelf, or to have extras to give to clients.

    Highly recommended.

Thank you to Thomas Nelson for this preview copy in exchange for a fair and honest review
