Tell us a little about yourself. I was raised Roman Catholic, reformed Lutheran, re-reformed Evangelical Lutheran, studied Luther, Wesley, and Henry informally then formally found my way to the Independent Evangelical University and Seminary where I found a return to the simple message that Jesus loves and calls us to His life.
What was your motivation behind this project? After being part of the assembly and the service of many denominational churches, I found the Lord's call led me deeper into the "small" churches where I became the called Pastor to a small independent church in rural Ohio. I found there, a huge love for the life of Christ and folks that were living out the life He offers to all of us. I realized then that according to statistics and trends, most in America are missing out on what the small congregation has to offer by way of the binding Spirit and Life of simple faith lived out in the love for your neighbor. I believe that this is the original call and purpose of the church as we see it lived out in the Book of Acts (5).
What do you hope folks will gain from this project? The trend today is toward the "mega" church with an assumption that the leadership of these churches must be "right" or "more right" than the others. Not true! With this book, I hope to give voice to the small church in America. The churches that built this nation and continue to be relevant in their communities even as they may be being overlooked by the majority. I pray the majority may look again to small assembly where they may be known, live, and love.
How were you personally impacted by working on this project? As I continued ministering, teaching, and living within the small church community, I became more convinced of the truth of it. My passion is now that the world would know the power of Love, Grace, and Mercy not just bestowed, but lived as "the way" in intimacy within the small congregation.
Who are your influences, sources of inspiration or favorite authors / artists? The Apostle Paul, Martin Luther, Matthew Henry, Reverend Ron Springer, Monsignor Paul Schweinler, A.W. Tozer, and T.W. Hunt
Anything else you'd like readers / listeners to know: Since publishing this book, I have accepted the position as Associate Vice President for Outreach with the United New Testament Church International Ministry Association, Inc. where I might help small independent churches and ministries worldwide carry the message of Christ's Love to the whole world. I also author a blog "Messages" Verse of the Day through our various ministry outlets.
