Product Description

Bring the Middle Ages to life while improving students' writing skills!

Institute for Excellence in Writing's Medieval History-Based Writing Lessons features 31 lessons that will acquaint young learners with Charlemagne, the Vikings, knighthood, and Renaissance geniuses as they write using IEW's Teaching Writing: Structure & Style stylistic techniques and nine structural units. This curriculum is designed to be taught by an instructor who has been through the Teaching Writing: Structure and Style seminar and who is familiar with the IEW writing method.

The Student Book includes instructions, assignments, blank outlines, source texts, checklists, and grammar helps for two levels of students-basic and advanced. More advanced students can make use of an included download for more advanced source texts and use suggested advanced elements of structure & style. Vocabulary cards and a suggested weekly outline with ideas for adaptation included.

The teacher's manual features the student text with correct answers overlaid; when clarifications or teaching tips are necessary, they're inserted in grey shaded boxes within the student pages . These inset notes include instructions to teachers, sample answers to questions, sample key word outlines, brainstorming ideas, review games, and helps for motivating students.

Upper-elementary and middle school students (grades 5-8).

Changes to this 4th Edition include the addition of some new source texts and updated checklists. The order in which the structural units are presented has also been changed to reflect the order in TWSS (i.e., Units 1-9 in order).

This 4th Edition Kit Includes:

  • Medieval History-Based Writing Lessons Student Book 4th Edition, 274 pages plus 36 cardstock pages, spiralbound softcover. Pages are reproducible for in-family use.
  • Medieval History-Based Writing Teacher's Manual 4th Edition, 283 pages, spiralbound softcover.
  • Access to the following downloads: Student Resource Notebook, the optional Medieval History-Based Writing Blackline Masters, and optional Advanced Writing Lessons Sample Key Word Outlines ebook
