Product Description

Dr. Anna McIntyre's life was going along just fine until someone else started living it. Her patient died because of an identity mix-up; her medical career is in jeopardy because of forged prescriptions; and her credit is in ruins. She thought things couldn't get worse, but that was before she opened the envelope and saw a positive HIV test with her name on it.

Her allies are two men who are also competing for her affection. Dr. Nick Valentine is a cynic who carries a load of guilt. Attorney Ross Donovan is a recovering alcoholic. The deeper Anna digs to discover who's behind the identity thefts the higher the stakes. Finally, when her life is on the line, Anna finds that her determination to clear her name might have been a prescription for trouble.

If fast-paced thrillers, racing hearts, pulsing veins, and stories of redemption excite you, then Dr. Richard Mabry's Medical Error will be "just what the doctor ordered." Mabry provides a superb balance of suspenseful thriller with a tale of forgiveness and restored relationships.

The novel follows the chaotic life of Dr. Anna McIntyre, an extremely talented physician with a penchant for bad luck. First, she becomes the victim of identity theft. Next, one of her patients dies of unknown causes, just about the same time Anna is accused of drug trafficking. The directors of the hospital where she works have serious doubts about her level of professionalism and are on the brink of firing her and driving her out of medicine. Just when she thinks life can get no worse, she receives results from a blood test that tells her she is HIV positive. This is a traumatic revelation, for Anna has been developing a love relationship with a medical pathologist named Nick Valentine.

Mabry piles on the frustrations for his main character, even to the point of wearying the reader. However, amidst it all, there is a rising knowledge that a Great Physician is at work in the lives of the doctors in the story. Much in the way that authors such as James A. Michener and Arthur Hailey wrote novels that explained the inner workings of hotels, airports, and universities, Mabry provides insights on how hospitals, clinics, and medical schools function. He helps readers understand the pressures put upon doctors and administrators to cure diseases, stay in budget, discover new cures, comfort grieving families, and maintain one's personal health and sanity.

Because the readers feel empathy for Anna in her dual role as a healer and as a victim of a dreaded disease, there is a great bond that keeps them turning pages. Mabry spent many years as a family physician and medical teacher, so he knows first hand the environment he is describing, and the need for the strength of God to endure the harshness of the emotional and physical challenges associated with medicine. For an informative and entertaining story, this one is first rate. – J. Theodore Bane, www.ChristianBookPreviews.com

Author/Artist Review

Tell us a little about yourself.  I'm a retired physician, now writing Christian fiction in the genre of "medical suspense with heart."

What was your motivation behind this project?  I sort of backed into writing fiction, having begun to study the craft of writing when I wrote a book after the death of my first wife. (That book is The Tender Scar, published in 2006 and still ministering). This is book two of a three-book series, Prescription For Trouble.

What do you hope folks will gain from this project?  I hope they'll see that no matter what others may do or say, no matter how deep the trouble that surrounds us, God is still there for the believer. He doesn't promise to deliver us from trouble, but he does promise to walk beside us during it and out the other side.

How were you personally impacted by working on this project?  As I watched the characters develop and wrote about the twists and turns of life that can affect us all, I found myself looking back at the ways God had brought me through my own problems.

Who are your influences, sources of inspiration or favorite authors / artists?  I've been fortunate enough to be taught and mentored by such great authors of Christian fiction as James Scott Bell, Alton Gansky, Gayle Roper, and many others. I've gained inspiration from the support and input of my wife, Kay, who has always believed in me, even when I didn't believe in myself.

Anything else you'd like readers / listeners to know:  I hope you enjoy MEDICAL ERROR. If you haven't read the first book in the series, CODE BLUE, don't fail to do so now. (The books are free-standing, so there's no need for a spoiler alert). And watch for the final book in the series, DIAGNOSIS DEATH, next spring.
