"First among the mighty (commentaries) for general usefulness we are bound to mention the man whose name is a household word, Matthew Henry. He is the most pious and pithy, sound and sensible, suggestive and sober, terse and trustworthy . . . he is deeply spiritual, heavenly, profitable; finding good matter in every text, and from all deducting the most practical and judicious lessons . . . It is the Christian's companion, suitable to everybody, instructive to all."
--Charles H. Spurgeon

T D5 Stars Out Of 5Excellent CommentaryOctober 12, 2017T DQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5I've searched far and wide. I've had the opportunity to utilize many commentaries, biblical surveys and/or handbooks for the purpose of understanding God's word. I must truly admit that the Matthew Henry commentary on the whole Bible is the best tool available whichever format one chooses.
First, he confirms to the reader that the Bible is the word of God, hence the emphasis as he explains the scriptures. One cannot possibly take away any other conclusion.
Second, Dr. Henry employs a fact based approach from beginning to end. He steers the reader far away from considering any and all proposed theories/hypothetical assumptions as to what God is saying to man.
Thirdly, none of his explanation/interpretation attacks and or questions the text. All that he has to say truly explains and/or exalts God's Word.
Finally, I highly recommend this product to any and all who are in pursuit of a true understanding of God's Word. The only possible rival to this product would be Matthew Poole's Bible Commentary (3 volume set).

The typeface in this edition is a more modern font, which is easier to read, possibly similar to a Roman font (exact typeface is not indicated). Paragraphs and subdivisions still exist, but are arranged in a modern outline style, with capital Roman numerals starting major divisions and lesser divisions indicated by Arabic (Standard) numbers.
