I have a 3 and 5 year old. My five year old has been doing this curriculum this year. I honestly was a little disappointed when I got the workbook because there was no color to it. But my son has loved to color all the blocks and the different pictures he gets to count or add. I wasn't sure how he would do but he has surprised me every week when Math Steve introduces a new concept every week. And my 3 year old has surprised me too. She is learning right along with him. I am so pleased with this curriculum that we will be doing math-u-see next year. I really appreciate all the reviews about math-u-see. It really influenced my decision.

I used this to teach my son basic number concepts, such as number value, one-to-one correspondence, and basic addition. He learned those easily with the manipulatives. (Other kids I know that are advanced kindergarteners have skipped this and started with Alpha.) The last half of the year my son started to dislike the number bars but still hadn't memorized the addition facts. Now that we have the basics down, I will change to my other standby for struggling learners: boring Saxon math. I've tried MUS with 4 kids now. The ones who have done well are those with higher verbal/auditory skills. Weird, but the lessons require verbal explanations; the kinesthetic and visual elements aren't enough to carry the message to struggling learners.

After much deliberation and research I chose the MUS primer curriculum and am pleased so far. I have a student who is reluctant to want to learn and so far this has worked for us. The lessons are easy enough to keep his attention and there are lots of practice pages. I like that the worksheets are not filled with a lot of pictures and distracting animations. It's very simple and to the point. The DVD is nice as well because it shows me how to teach each lesson. (I'm sure that will be handy as we progress through the different curriculum levels.) So far we like it and will continue as long as this works for us.

Have used Math-U-See with 5 children over 8 years and have NO plans of stopping. This is an easy beginner workbook. Teaches them to write their numbers, count, and addition. I love the way it builds but in small bites. Having used the series all the way to Pre-Algebra, I can SEE how the books build on each one. Try it and you will NOT be disappointed. You will truly SEE math and how to use it in life!

My daughter is in first grade and her teacher told me that she is behind. I bought this book to review the basics with her and to teach her things that she might have missed in kindergarten. My daughter loves this book. She prefers this book over her school homework that has pictures on it. Will definitely continue with this program. My son is doing Alpha right now and I will continue with Math U See next year as will.
