At the beginning of my son's 3rd grade year (July) we made the switch from Life of Fred to TT and it has made a world of difference in my son's attitude towards math! He liked LoF but it seemed to be boring for him after a while. He is in love with TT now and I don't think we will ever use anything else!
This is a curriculum where my child can work independently with tutoring through the dvd. Both my child and I like this very much and she is easily completing two lessons a day plus quizzes. We will slow down when necessary. We have TT grades 4- Pre Algebra and have been using it for years.
This is the first time we have used Teaching Textbooks, but so far it's great! My daughter loves doing math and always asks "is it time to do math now?" We struggled getting motivated to do math before but not now! I pretty sure we will be buying this for the next grade level.
In our fifth year of homeschooling, after lots of trial and error, we FINALLY found our "sweet spot" when it comes to math curriculum - Teaching Textbooks! I put off TT for a while mainly due to the price - it was a lot to spend if it ended up not working for us. But my son did well on the placement test, and then I got to see a demo at a Homeschooling Convention, and then I was sold! Worth the price, especially since I can use it for my daughter when the time comes, so it's a 2 for 1 deal for our family. My only wish is that they made a Primary level for all the time up until 3rd-ish grade, which is their earliest level. If you can only buy one or the other of books or CD-Rom, I highly recommend the CD-Rom, because the explanations seem more thorough than in the book, and the student is told in real time if their answer is correct or not and is offered help, more explanation, and an opportunity to correct it.
I was almost ready to throw in the towel home schooling my special needs son. He is on the autism spectrum, and was really struggling with math. It literally was taking our entire day to get our work done. I expressed my frustrations to my home schooling facilitator, and she recommended Teaching Textbooks. This has been such a blessing from God, and I am so grateful for this amazing math curriculum. It is the BEST math curriculum out there. It's like having a virtual tutor online, and my son is able to get his work done much faster now. His math skills has improved greatly. I HIGHLY recommend this curriculum.
