Math in Motion from Classical Conversations is an introductory music theory course that teaches students how music works through teaching basic music grammar and how to create, test, and explore music. Using excerpts from well-known hymns, students will see how logic, patterns, and numbers are part of musical harmony. As the course progresses, students will use dialectic thinking to transpose hymns into different keys. At the end of the curriculum, students will offer a rhetorical presentation of a score they have analyzed.
Students will learn that music is an art that can be studied and analyzed for the sake of training the mind, and understand that musical knowledge requires work and proper training in order to develop both listening and performance skills. No prior musical education is required.
This write-in workbook features instruction along with exercises and activities. Twelve chapters cover the keyboard and musical notation, reading symbols and notes, rhythm, meter, scales, time signatures, key signatures, intervals, triads, and more. Students will write in notes; identify notes and triads; count beats; complete crossword review puzzles; write scales, and more.
Ages 14 & up. 280 pages, consumable, spiral-bound softcover. Reproducible for in-family use only.
One semester course, though some students may take longer. Required course for Classical Conversations Challenge I curriculum (second semester).
