Most moms i spoke to agree that these textbooks are about a half grade behind but the way that it teaches is wonderful and truely requires little from me besides support and review. Supplimenting daily with minute math or flash cards or something for "practice" is helpful.
We love the teaching textbook products. They are simple, well laid out and not to much for one day. They explain new ideas well which makes it easy to teach. Will be using this program next year. Thank you!
We are using Teaching Textbooks (Math 4) for the first time this year with my fourth grader. Previously, we used Bob Jones and were very happy, but we were looking for more independent work so I could focus on our younger three children. The curriculum is easy to install, easy to use, and makes tracking student progress easy as well.
At first, my son loved Teaching Textbooks. In the last six weeks, he has completed through Lesson 32, often voluntarily doing two lessons a day. However, he is now complaining that the practice problems and lesson questions have little to do with the actual lesson material presented during the lecture. He doesn't get a chance to practice what he has learned. For example, today's lesson was on money/coins, yet he only had five or six questions related to money. The rest of the questions seemed random. He is well past the "review" stage of initial chapters of any curriculum, so we would've expected more focused problems.
So, the big question ... do the lesson's exercises continue to not reinforce of the lesson's topic? Do the problems continue to have little to do with the lesson's subject material? Or is this drawback specific to TT Math 4? My child does not benefit from this teaching style. He would prefer to practice what he has learned.
