MarilynCoral Springs, FLAge: 35-44Gender: female4 Stars Out Of 5Great readJanuary 20, 2015MarilynCoral Springs, FLAge: 35-44Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5Mary Varrs loves science and desires to continue her education and work in the field of science. She is on a deadline and must seek help from a neighbor. When she agrees to help Priscilla Dane Osbourne in her quilting circle, so Pricilla will help her, she never imagined meeting the handsome and notorious nephew, Zenus Dane. When they must work together, will they likely kill each other, become great friend or find what neither one thought they wanted, true love. Can Mary meet her deadline in time, or will she be forced to return to Italy?
Zenus Dane loves his scheduled life, when flood waters almost cost him his business he must seek the help of his Aunt Pricilla. When he barges into a quilting bee he never imagined how his life would get turned upside down, after he agrees to help his aunt, so she in turn will help him. What will come of his heart. He always thought he knew what he wanted and what he did not. But can Mary Varrs be something he never knew he needed?
I really enjoyed this novel. It has some mystery, unique friendships, love and more. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys reading good, clean, christian romance. It is set in the 1890's. I was gifted a copy of this book from the author and good reads first reads.
Laura HiltonHorseshoe Bend, ARAge: 45-54Gender: female3 Stars Out Of 5Masterpiece MarriageJanuary 7, 2015Laura HiltonHorseshoe Bend, ARAge: 45-54Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 4Meets Expectations: 3MASTERPIECE MARRIAGE is a very well-written historical set in the gilded age. Both Mary & Zenus want something from Priscilla as it seems she is the answer to both of their prayers. But is she really?
Im not really a fan of books set in this time period. The language is very stilted and the characters very proper. I know it is true to life. But to me, it slows the reading down and I cant lose myself in the story as well as Id like.
That said, MASTERPIECE MARRIAGE was definitely a unique read. A flooded textile plant. Desperation to pull some sort of salvage from the damaged goodshopefully with a profit. A hero whom no one seems to like or understand. Mary is popular and sought out as a leader in her field (as a woman in the sciences) but when she is offered an once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, she may have to pass if she cant find a suitable artist.
Fans of the gilded age, historical romance, Gina Welborn, and the Quilts of Love series will devour this latest addition to the collection. A well-stitched story.
Foster3Ontario, CanadaAge: 55-65Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5another winnerJanuary 6, 2015Foster3Ontario, CanadaAge: 55-65Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5I am always delighted when offered a "Quilts of Love" book to review. Each centres on a quilt but the variety of plots and characters is amazing. Some are romance, others mystery, and still others combine one of the former with historical themes. I have yet to be disappointed with one!! I have loved them all.
Gina Welborn is a new author to me, but certainly is one that I will be watching for in the future. Although the story takes place in 1891, many of the events could very well happen in current times. Although the plot centres around a quilt, there are many twists and turns that grab your attention and have you sitting on the edge of your seat. Both of the main characters have ambition and are determined to follow their plans to achieve their goals. However, a conflict arises, as Priscilla and Zenus , both headstrong and opinionated, have goals that are extremely different. The quick moving plot keeps you wondering throughout the book.
The character are well developed and realistic. In fact , you become so engrossed in their problems and challenges, that you tend to forget that they are fictional!! I wanted to shake them at times and at others , give them a big hug and some sympathy.
This is definitely a book not to miss!!
A five star book!!

MarianneWanham, AlbertaAge: 55-65Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5i'm loving this seriesJanuary 5, 2015MarianneWanham, AlbertaAge: 55-65Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 55 stars ***** out of 5
I was able to identify with Mary right from the start, for though I can sew (just not a fine stitch), I too prefer to be outside getting my hands dirty. Nothing as prestigious as botany, though. This was a fun read, with stereotypes exchanged. A man who works with fabric, a woman who loves botany. And, as with all the books in the QUILTS OF LOVE series, the quilt takes on its own personality. To have included a woman who makes prize winning quilts was pure genius. Gina Wellborn is a new author to me, and I really enjoyed this, from the conflict of both needing completely different things from the same woman (Priscilla Dane Osbourne), within the same time line, to the final reward. There is just enough thrill to the read to keep the reader from being able to put the book down. I recommend it to all readers.
Thank you to Litfuse Publicity Group and Abingdon Press for the opportunity to read this book. I was given it free of charge in exchange for an honest review. A positive critique was not required. The opinions are my own.
