I have a new author to add to my "favorites" list. Her name is Diana Wallis Taylor. I had the pleasure of reading her novel Mary, Chosen of God and enjoyed it very much. I love reading Biblical fiction, especially when it is as well-written as this book was. The characters are very believable and I felt like I had a clear window into the life of Jesus and his family. It definitely helps me understand my Bible better. This book was very well-researched and I highly recommend it. I will definitely be reading more books by Diana Wallis Taylor.

This book, although actually a bit different than I expected, was quite interesting. Diana does a really good job of bringing the time period and characters to life. It was engaging to read about Mary as she heard from the angel, became wed to Joseph, and later on had little Yeshua. As he grows, and his brothers and sisters come along, Mary's life story continues. Her relationship with God was a blessing to me. I enjoyed imagining her feelings and how awed she was to be raising the Messiah and be his mother, as well as, the things that she witnessed happening later in his life. As you read you can feel her love, her struggles, and he emotions she must have felt.

Although, at times the story may have played out a bit different than what I personally would have imagined, I enjoyed the author's take. It was interesting to read the Jewish names and at time words were included that made the story more personal. I also, originally thought this to be a type of Christmas novel and was suprised to find that after just a few short chapters, that part of the book was over. The book actually spans the lifetime of Jesus. I also enjoyed the author's take on Jesus as a boy and how he was taken with insects, bugs, birds, and had a calming effect on those around him. There was definitely much thought put into the story.

I would recommend this book. I received a free copy through the Book Club Network and Whitaker House to review. All opinions are my own and I was not required to review it positively.

Mary Chosen of God by Diana Wallis Taylor is a heart-warming story about Marys deep faith in and relationship with God. From her journey at the time of the angels appearance, announcing Gods plan for her life, to the time of the Lords ascension, the reader experiences what might have been her life and path through the years. The author relates Marys belief that Jesus, Gods Sonand hers, has a special purpose to fulfill, but she does not fully realize the plan until it unfolds before her eyes. The story relates the absolute trust in God and Marys reliance upon Him, even in the worst trial. The author succeeds in creating a likely family for the Messiah and the probable siblings reactions to Jesus and His ministry. Through the story we learn a lot about the culture and the rituals of the Jewish people. Overall, it was an enjoyable fictional account of Marys life and experiences. I received this book through TBCN in exchange for an honest review.

    Enthralling!! Inspirational!! Captivating writing!!

Vivid description is deftly woven into this historical

Biblical fiction. The reader becomes part of the story.

The reader will discover the foods eaten in their time

period, the modes of transportation, the housing set

up, the way clothing was made plus the Jewish

    traditions and Festivals.

All the characters were well defined, vivid, colorful

and added to a greater understanding of Mary from a

human view point. You will feel her vulnerability, her

patience, her faith, her understanding, joys and sorrows.

The reader is present when Mary accepts God's invitation

to be the Mother of the Messiah and accompanies her in

the journey of Yeshua from birth to death to His

resurrection and ascension back to His Heavenly Father.

I voluntarily read & reviewed a copy of this book. Thank

you to book fun.org and the publisher for this Book.

    My opinion is my own.

Mary: Chosen of God by Diana Wallis Taylor is a remarkable novel. Biblical fiction is one of my favorite genres to read and this book did not disappoint. The story of the young Hebrew maiden, Mary, may be a familiar story to many but her every day life and her thoughts and emotions throughout her journey as the mother of Jesus leave a bit to the imagination and Taylor fills in this story magnificently. The rawness of emotions as we see Mary's wonder at being chosen as the Messiah's mother, the love she shows as Yeshua grows and the grief as she watches her son die are eloquently portrayed. Throughout the story Mary is depicted as a woman of prayer, one who is in intimate contact with Ha'Shem, the God Who Sees Her. In the Scriptures, it is said that Mary treasured and pondered all these things in her heart and Taylor shows that well as Mary often is seen questioning and thinking about this miracle child of hers. She knew who he was but where was he going? What is his destiny? What would come next? Would he take on Rome? When could she reveal his miracle birth to his siblings so they might understand more fully who Yeshua really was? How could she dispel their disquietude and skepticism as they try to make sense of a brother who is now a rabbi who heals the sick and raises the dead? Mary knew within her heart of hearts that Yeshua was only loaned to her for a time and she must trust the Father with what she could not see.

Taylor keeps the story moving and brings interest as she describes the everyday life of the Hebrew families, their meals and activities, the architecture of their living areas and the ways of travel. Ancient history is brought to life as the Hebrew customs, holidays and feast days are described and integrated into the story.

Mary: Chosen of God is a captivating and compelling book, one that those who love Biblical history will not want to miss.
