Diane Busch5 Stars Out Of 5Comprehensive biographyJanuary 26, 2018Diane BuschQuality: 0Value: 0Meets Expectations: 0This is a comprehensive biography, maybe containing more details than one really needs to know, but interesting nonetheless and very informative. If the large size of the book seems daunting, listen to the audiobook which is read by the author and is performed wonderfully.
The author begins by dispelling some common myths surrounding Martin Luther. And then goes on to chronicle the life and ministry of this passionate follower of Christ. He was a student of the Bible, and felt compelled to speak out against practices of "the church that deviated from scripture. His passion and love for God gave him the courage to write and speak with much risk to his life. He was humble and didnt like for the people who agreed with him to call themselves Lutherans.
Luther spent many years translating the Bible into German. In his forties, he married a former nun, Kate, who was 14 years his junior.
There is much to be admired in the groundbreaking work to which Luther dedicated himself. So much so, that centuries later a black minister in Georgia named Michael King, decided to change his name to Martin Luther King as he was a leader in the civil rights movement. He later changed his sons name to Martin Luther King, Jr. and encouraged him to also become active in the movement.
D'Love5 Stars Out Of 5Couldn't wait for the paperback!!January 25, 2018D'LoveQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5I heard about this book on many American Family Radio programs who had Metaxas on discussing it. That put a desire in my heart to learn more about the times during the Reformation. Eric does a fabulous job of debunking the myths and telling the true accounts of the time. His research is very detailed and his writing style puts you into the period. The satiric humor sprinkled throughout each chapter makes it as fun a read as it is instructive. Well done! It's inspired me to add his other well-known biographies onto my growing list of future reading material.

It is so not dry or scholarly, yet, it is full of information I never knew about the esteemed Martin Luther. Can't wait to get to Heaven and sit down to speak with him about cloacal insight. I look forward to reading more of Eric Metaxas' works.
