Product Description

Perhaps one of the most misunderstood and misrepresented characters of the New Testament is Martha. Often painted in the colors of reproach, Martha seems to be the poster child for how not to be a follower of Jesus. From the mind of Diana Wallis Taylor comes this touching, well-researched portrayal of Martha of Bethany, sister of Mary and Lazarus. Through Taylor's lush descriptions and inspired combination of imagined and recorded dialogue, Martha's world--her trials, triumphs, and loves--vibrantly comes to life. Follow Martha as she is jilted by her betrothed, falls in love with a Roman soldier, grieves the death of her father, cares for her siblings, and serves her Lord with dignity and grace. Readers will never read the biblical story of Martha the same way again.

Author/Artist Review

Tell us a little about yourself.  I'm a grandmother of ten and have enjoyed being able to indulge my love of writing after retirement. I've owned two bookshop/coffeehouses, write poetry and love traveling with my family.

What was your motivation behind this project?  I always thought we misjudged Martha. I just wanted to show her in a different light. My forte seems to be to take misunderstood women in the Bible and show them as we have not imagined them.

What do you hope folks will gain from this project?  To see Martha as a woman with heart and love for her Lord. Maybe to show all the events in her life that might have shaped her character, even with a little poetic license.

How were you personally impacted by working on this project?  Martha was a little like Peter, impulsive and sometimes saying what she thought before thinking. We are all guilty of doing that aren't we? Jesus saw her for the deep-feeling woman she was and loved her just as he loved her sister Mary and Lazarus.

Who are your influences, sources of inspiration or favorite authors / artists?  I love Davis Bunn, Francine Rivers...Also a fellow writer, Susan Meisner. Marvelous characters and dialogue. I love delving into the Scriptures to pull out a character sketch and depend on God's Holy Spirit to inspire and encourage me.

Anything else you'd like readers / listeners to know:  I thank you all for your e-mails, positive comments and for your encouragement. It means a great deal to me. I hope you all enjoy MARTHA as much as you seemed to enjoyed JOURNEY TO THE WELL.
