Publisher's Description

A meddling horse, paper bag floors and a flying saucer on the town square. The little town of Mars has it all—including a brand new resident who might spell heartache for one of its own. Twenty-something Penn Davenport yearns for an exciting life in the big city and wants to shed the label of orphan that she's worn for years. To achieve that dream, she must pass the CPA exam then move away from the two aunts who reared her after her parents died in a plane crash. When John Townsend—full of life and the joy of living—moves to town, he rattles Penn's view of herself, her life, and her dreams... which isn't such a bad thing until she falls for him and discovers he's a pilot.

This book is charming, quirky full of hope and romance. It shows true love not book love. The author knows how to pull you Into the book and make you a part of the family, a part of the love. Penn is defensive when it comes to love and John is patient when it comes to love because he has GOD directing his love life, and with GOD you can't lose and he did not lose. Penn has had a very hard life but is surrounded by Aunts who love her and a quirky horse. This is funny and quirky and with GOD fun. Yes I said fun with GOD. HE is amazingly fun and funny, who made Mark Lowry? Her Aunts try setting her up and as you guess what fun we have as peeping Thoms or Thomettes we enjoy the tomfoolery that goes on with them the horse and a paperback floor, and no I am not going to tell you more about all that just that the author grabs you by the collar on page one and pulls you right into the book and makes you one of the Aunts or horse etc.depending on the scene and you feel empty when you put the book down because your family is gone. It's great. Hurry... Go Buy. I received this book to read and give an honest review.

I don't give these away lightly. It was easy to rate this fun story with 5 stars.

Loved the beginning. Loved the ending. And everything in between.

The author draws the reader in and keeps your interest with a little romance, a little humor, and a little tragedy that turns into some strong faith.

The characters were fun and heart warming and a little quirky. I enjoyed Penn's darling aunts and their little match making tactics. It was fun to be apart of Penn's and Johns growing romance.

The book ends with the author sharing a few recipes that were a big part of the book. Penn's Celebration Cookies, Cinnamon Rolls and Chocolate Cake.

I loved reading this story and look forward to more from Hope Toler Dougherty. For more information

This is a romance story of Penn and John in a small town of Mars, PA. If you enjoy a slow read with humor and charm then this is the book for you. It doesn't have drama, twist or turns, it does have romance, fun, faith and down right wholesome goodness. The characters are loving and caring people with big personalities.

I would recommend this to those that want a very basic romantic read, for any ages. It was a little slow for my regular read, but good for the relaxing summer days coming...... The cover of the book doesn't really do it justice, I felt that the cover needed to be softer and warmer for what the book was about. (just my opinion)

Disclosure of Material Connection: I received this book free from the publisher through Litfuse. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own. I really enjoyed this book! I sat down to just read a chapter to get started on it and see what the book was like and the next thing I knew, I had read the first seven chapters! Penn is an ordinary girl, living life, dealing with a social horse, and a stubborn car. Penn is thrown for a loop when there is a new member at the committee meeting for Apple Fest, and she is annoyed, yet intrigued by him. As Penn spends more time with John, she finds herself liking him, until she finds out what he does, bringing up things from her past. I wasn't sure what to expect from this book as Hope is new author for me and the cover and title are so different from most of the books I am used to reading. This is a quick, fun read and characters whom are so real, and quirky. Penn was a great character to spend time with and I found myself laughing with her at times, cringing and crying and feeling her embarrassment at other times. I highly recommend this book for anyone who is looking for a sweet read.

MARS... WITH VENUS RISING is a cute contemporary romance, set, where else, but in Mars. The town, that is. Not the planet. Penn is not open for love. She has dreams. A CPA license. Losing the title of orphan. A big city and the ability to get lost in the crowd. John, on the other hand lives life in the limelight. A pilot--and just as cocky as Tom Cruise on Top Gun. A crimefighter--though he does it from the cockpit. As big as life and despite herself Penn is intrigued. Add some matchmaking aunts, a meddling horse, and a town festival and you have a romance guaranteed to send our heroine flying off into space--on a spaceship, not an airplane.

I learned something--didn't even know paperbag floors existed so I looked them up. Who knew? And the pictures I saw online indicate they look nice when done.

I enjoyed MARS...WITH VENUS RISING. It was slow... and the characters didn't really reach out, grab me, and draw me in, but it was a nice, quiet way to pass a few evenings. I won my copy through a giveaway, but am participating with Litfuse tour to help get the news out. This is a book for contemporary romance lovers who can't get enough of Beth Vogt, Becky Wade, and Melissa Tagg.
