Three Stories That Share the Adventures of First Love and Second Chances.
A Perfect SecretRose Benders betrothed, Luke Lantz, is safe and dependable, maybe a little too much so. Or so she thinks until she sees him in the woods one night and discovers a secret hes been keeping. Now his secret haunts her. She wasnt sure about marrying a man she knew too well. But should she marry a man she doesnt understand at all?
Christmas CradlesWhen Anna Stolis takes over for her aunt, the local midwife, Christmas night heats up with multiple deliveries, three strangers quilts, and unexpected help from the handsome and brooding Asa Lapp.
A Marriage of the HeartSince her mothers death, Abigail Kauffman has lived alone with her father. She longs to escape the emptiness of the farmhouse that has never felt like home. Joseph Lambert is a newcomer in their close-knit community. Only after suddenly marrying do they begin to understand the tender truths of life-long love.

I thought this story seemed a bit unrealistic. But on the other hand, maybe that is because my brain is flashing, "Danger! Danger!" Rose is very trusting and naïve. Her behavior is not in the least prudent, but she is young and curious. Also, being Amish, she probably didn't have any experience with the deceitful ways of the world, so she felt no fear of unnamed possibilities.
With all that being said, this is a sweet and innocent love story with quite a bit of humor thrown in.
A Marriage of the Heart
This story tugs at my heart-strings. It is the story of another young woman, whose actions are not well planned. However, the results were far from what she expected. It is exciting to see how she grows to be a very special woman, in spite of the girl she was.
This is my favorite novella of the three. It is a sweet and poignant story of love. Both Anna and Asa are charming characters. Their path to happiness together was obviously planned by God, which is a surprise to them both.
tammycookblogsbooks5 Stars Out Of 5A Marriage Of The HeartOctober 15, 2013tammycookblogsbooksThis book contains three novellas published in previous books. All three stories have the theme of first love and second chances running through them.
A Perfect Secret - Rose Bender was going to marry her lifelong friend Luke Lantz. She thought she knew everything about him. Their relationship was too comfortable for her. While Rose wanted adventure and romance, Luke gave her dependable and safe. When Rose discovered a secret about Luke, she began to wonder if she really knew him at all.
Christmas Cradles - Anna Stolis never needed to depend on anyone. She was a single 26 year old Amish midwife that was self-reliant. That is, until she filled in for her aunt's midwifery practice. She didn't know the area so Asa Lapp rode her around to her aunt's patients. As the night went on, she realized that she needed Asa more she ever would have imagined.
A Marriage Of The Heart - Joseph Lambert suddenly found himself caught up in a marriage to Abigail Kauffman, even though he had just met her the day before. There was nothing that he would let cause him to lose his new-found good standing in the Amish community, not even his beautiful and manipulating new wife.
All three stories are very different but enjoyable to read. My favorite was Christmas Cradles. It was very sweet. I liked the characters of Anna and Asa.
Each novella on it's own can be read quickly. But the stories are so good you'll have a hard time reading just one.
I received a free copy of this book from BookSneeze and Thomas Nelson in exchange for my honest review.
Rhonda Nash-hallMadison Heights VAAge: 45-54Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5lovely Amish novellasJanuary 19, 2013Rhonda Nash-hallMadison Heights VAAge: 45-54Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5I had read A Perfect Secret when it was released on its own and enjoyed it. I did not remember all of the details, though, and read it again. Each of the three novellas gave me such a good feeling. It made me think of my own first love, giving birth to my own daughters, and the wonderful experiences I had. Rose made me think of adventure and the discontent that the ordinary, safe, life can leave us with each day. You will love reading how Rose and Luke find a way to "spice up life".
Anna and Asa's story was so touching. Anna is a marvelous example of the curvy woman finding her own way in the world. I love that we have an example of a woman who is not 80 pounds. Anna also has her own successful career as an Amish midwife so she serves as a positive role-model in several different ways. You will enjoy traveling through the snow and blizzard with Anna and Asa as they help to bring new lives into the world.
Abigail and Joseph made me think of arranged marriages, though it is a bit different from them, it does have many similarities. They start off their marriage with some definite obstacles to overcome. Can they find love together? Anna wants to leave her father's home? Will she get her wish or will she be stuck in that loveless, strict home forever? I found great pleasure in reading the story of these various young Amish people. I believe that you will also be filled with good feelings as you read Kelly Long's novellas.
MaureenTSyracuse NYGender: female5 Stars Out Of 5Three Amish NovellasDecember 1, 2012MaureenTSyracuse NYGender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5The first story...A Perfect Secret, is not really a perfect one. We meet Rose and her intended Luke Raber. This one is a very different, not what one expects! We are taken on late night adventures, and some not so nice accidents. Also some very caring [???] bouquets of flowers!
In Christmas Cradles we have a beautiful story of Romance and Forgivness. Asa and Anna..Anna being a midwife and ending up delivering three babies, while Asa is her buggy driver, and assistant.
Reliving mistakes made as a young man, while sick. One baby born in a stable...just like a Christmas of long ago. A sweet story of renewal and happiness.
The last story A Marriage of the Heart.. is about a hurting girl who tricks an newly baptized Amishman into marriage. Loved how this story unfolded and how love and forgiveness abounds.
Three quick, good stories, they are a fast and sweet read. Enjoy!

britluver20021Arnold, CAAge: 25-34Gender: female4 Stars Out Of 5Review of the book A marriage of the heartOctober 23, 2012britluver20021Arnold, CAAge: 25-34Gender: femaleQuality: 4Value: 4Meets Expectations: 4This book suprized me on a bunch of things. I did not realize inside this one book was 3 small books to read. The marriage of the heart wasn't even until the end, the third book. I enjoyed all the books even though the second one was hard to get into at first but it got better near the end.
The first book is about a guy and a girl get married before they really know what they want and spend the entire marriage trying to figure out what they want. I enjoyed this book because I could never tell what was coming next. The second book is about a dr who delivers babies and falls in love with the guy helping out who is her assitant. The third book is about a girl who marries a boy before she was ready to get married and wasn't sure how to act but ends up falling in love with him and they compliment each other.
I liked in the third book this one quote on page 309 " Having a community of people behind you makes it much easier. You know the rules. You know what to expect. You know how to fit in. For some people, I guess all of that would be pretty boring, but I've had my taste and my fill of life with no rules." I like this because when you are struggling with challenges in life it helps to have people who are always there for you and honestly care about you and wants whats best for you.
