My older approved review (from 2015 or earlier) is missing from this page, so I'm submitting this review again. Tigris and Euphrates rivers do not combine before reaching the Persian Gulf in this book, which is WRONG. One of the states is labeled wrong. Malaysia is not labeled properly (The Northern part of Borneo is Malaysian and not Indonesian territory.) These were mistakes that jumped out to me the first time I tried to use the book with my oldest son. If this product does not include a CD-ROM, therefore making it ineligible for returns, I would have returned it.
This product is an invaluable resourse for studying history using geography through the many events in history. It includes so many maps (in book and on CD) with varying levels of curriculum assignments by grade/academic level. If you've always wondered how to teach your kids the value of how history has impacted the globe and it's many civilizations, countries, and people groups this is a fantastic resourse! It has maps that show things like: Phoenicia's Trading Empire, the Romantic Empire, Eastern Advancement, Europe's Medieval World, New World Beginnings and Growth, and Modern Day Stages of Countries and Continents' Transformation with all the wars you can think of and don't know of blended in between. My daughter loves it! And it requires very liitle work on her part and very little parental supervision. I recommend pairing this with your own history curriculum as an additional source of learning. They include a nice list of recommended history curriculum to pair with this including some popular ones like: Story of the World, Mystery of History, Truth Quest History, My Father's World, and many more.
We began our year using another geography program(which we are still using), but I wanted a little more challenge for my 7th grader. Map Trek is complete and we are really excited to add this to our homeschool library and using it through High School!
I can hardly believe that nobody has reviewed this fantastic homeschool resource on Christian Book yet. I gasp at the thought of it! If you are homeschooling, this is the gold standard of geography. Terri Johnson is to geography what Andrew Pudewa is to writing!
I purchased this book and cd before it was released. It sat quietly on our shelf. Until one day I said, we need to do map drills and geography. I went to the internet and searched for a few things. One of my searches lead to Map Trek, I said to myself, I have that. I walked downstairs to the bookshelf and blew the dust of the book. A few weeks later I loaded the cd and realized how incredible this curriculum really is.
This is a complete geography curriculum when used alongside any history curriculum and real books. It covers the geography of every historical era, to include United States history. There are maps and blank maps of each state for state studies. Included is a world geography plan to learn world and U.S. geography in 7 months, through studying one area a month for 7 months. There are large printable maps of the world and continents that can also be used for map drills, one map is labeled the other is blank with grid lines. There are even large blank grid maps for each area that can be completely hand drawn in by older students. I've seen other geography curricula that are similar to this and cost more money.
You are getting maps and outlines of every era from ancient to modern, plus maps and outlines for states, the world, and the continents. There is also a map of the world time zones. Each historical map contains suggested activities for grades 1-12. Historical periods, state geography, and world geography, it's all here. The only things you need to supplement this are a good atlas for reference, a globe, and history books.
