Candice Curry didn't have a normal childhood. Normal is hard to come by when you are awakened in the night by your father--who is high on drugs--for a wild ride down the highway. Or when your father has a habit of "borrowing" things and never returning them. Or when imposing strangers show up at the door trying to track him down.
While her father found himself on the wrong side of the law, her mother put herself through nursing school and kept food on the table by working around the clock, which left Candice in the hands of a father who needed babysitting himself.
Through her struggles and brokenness, Candice finds freedom in forgiveness and love in the midst of tragedy. Join her on the winding road to discover the truth that God doesn't love us because we're perfect--but because he is.

This is her story, one steeped in secrets but one that, ultimately, led her to a place of forgiveness and freedom. As she struggles to understand her criminal father, as well as her own imperfect life, Candice comes to realize that we are not defined by our circumstances but rather by how we react to those circumstances. She's found peace in the knowledge that God doesn't love us because we're perfect--but because he is.

I am interested in the lives of others, and that is why I chose to read and review this book.
The Con Man's Daughter tells the story of a girl who grew up longing for the approval of her father. This girl never got what she was longing for, and the book tells of her struggle to forgive her father and move on with her life in the best way.
Who the book is for:
This book is good for those who have ever had to forgive someone who hurt them, and it is especially good for those who have struggled because of a lack of relationship with their father.
What I liked:
The author is very real in the way that she shares her story. She is very open with the details that she includes in the book.
The story is written in a way that makes it interesting to read, and it kept my attention.
The ending of the book is very hopeful, and I enjoyed reading of how God is working in Candice's life today.
What I didn't like:
There is nothing in particular that I didn't like when it comes to this book.
Overall, I thought that this was an interesting read.
I give The Con Man's Daughter 5 out of 5 stars.

Jill5 Stars Out Of 5This is a God story!August 5, 2017JillQuality: 0Value: 0Meets Expectations: 0The first chapter of The Con Man's Daughter described a harrowing night the author experienced with her mentally ill, drug addicted father when she was only 13-years old. This night changed her perception of him forever and I remember thinking about how terrified I would have been in that situation, and it was only the beginning of how her dad's choices impacted her life. What struck me most about this book is how Candice had the ability to describe exactly what she was feeling in each moment and how I could so easily identify with the hurt she has suffered because of my own family struggles. I stopped several times to cry (okay, sob) and I was blown away by the courage and strength it took for Candice to share this very painful part of her life. But her story has a purpose and that's why I think everyone should read it - to point people to the hope and redemption found in Jesus Christ! It truly is a God story and I am so glad I have the opportunity to review this book and be a part of the launch team. I look forward to reading Candice's next book!
Melissa5 Stars Out Of 5Incredible Story!June 22, 2017MelissaQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5This is an incredible story! I made the mistake of reading the last several chapters in public and couldn't stop the tears from flowing, so I was the oddball crying in the waiting room!
I started following Candice's blog when her letter to her daughter's stepmother went viral. As a stepmother myself, I was so impressed with Candice's grace and became a fan right away. I am an even bigger fan of hers after reading this amazing book!
I am in AWE of Candice's ability to forgive and move forward with her life after her "atypical" childhood. This is an amazing testimony of the power of God's love and His ability to redeem even the messiest story. I was so touched by the transformation in her marriage, as well as the sweet man who stepped in as a grandfather figure to her oldest daughter.
I am so thankful that Candice shared her story because I know it will impact so many lives. (Have your tissues ready before you start reading!)
I received an advance reader copy in exchange for my honest review.

The Con Man's Daughter: A Story of Lies, Desperation, and Finding God by Candice Curry is a sad family's true story. Candice Curry's father is like a child himself. In his daughter's eyes, he is very, very selfish. She spends most of her life striving to conquer the bad memories of her childhood. Once she grows up she takes on the battle of her step siblings. She wants to make sure that her father does not hurt another child in this life. As she struggles through many battles in life, she learns to walk in faith. God becomes the pilot of her life, her "Blessed Assurance" and her friend.
I felt moved emotionally after reading how all, a big family, had left him totally alone. Obviously, he needed many prayers and a basket full of hope. Through all of these feelings, prayers, questions, Candice Curry became a wonderful mother and did not miss mentioning the miracles which took place in her life over and over again. I hope you have continued success and many blessings throughout your life. Thank you to Baker Books for a copy of the book.
Celeste Barnard5 Stars Out Of 5Best Memoir Ever!! Beautful Story of God's Redemption!!May 16, 2017Celeste BarnardQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5Candice Curry has an incredible gift of sharing her story with grace, authenticity, and humbleness. I could not put this book down, and when I did, I could not stop thinking about what could possibly happen next. Her life and her story got into my head, but even more so, got into my heart. There were parts of her story that broke my heart and I found myself weeping for her loss. But God. As strong as the pain is in these chapters, redemption runs stronger. In her story she has given us a view of her own transformation, from bitterness to forgiveness. If God can help her to forgive the deepest, darkest wounds of her soul, then surely, He can help any of us walk through forgiveness and experience what she has penned in these pages.... freedom. Share your story and set others free.
