I just finished watching this movie with my 3 girls and we all loved it! I was impressed at how well they stayed true to the book I loved so much as a young girl myself. I would give it 4 1/2 stars because the acting was a little cheesy in places (though Lexi Johnson and Dean Jones were great) but with that not being an option it earns a 5. I am thrilled they are making a #2 and can't wait to see it!
My entire family enjoyed this movie. My 8 year old daughter fell in love with Mandie. I had read her the first book and after watching the movie, she can't wait for me to read the next book in the series. Please make more of the books into movies.
Beautiful scenery. Excellent movie to watch on these snowy days. I believe this movie would be fine for an adoptive or blended family. I wanted to comment that the step-mother did not show any affection to Mandie and gave two gifts to her own daughter in front of Mandie at Christmas. It appeared to me, that only her father gave her the cat, considering the step-mother was allergic to the cat and looked surprised to see it given as a gift. I saw Mandie work hard without complaining while the sister was not shown to do any work. The step-sister may have worked, it just wasn't shown. The emphasis was Mandie's testimony as a hard worker. There wasn't fighting among them. It was just shown that the step mother and sister weren't friendly, but not overly done. This was just the beginning of the movie. Mandie and her father had a close loving relationship. The rest of the movie was a fun, enjoyable, humorous family movie.
