I grew up reading the Mandie books by Lois Gladys Leppard. Although the movie does not follow the exact story line of the books, I was not disappointed. I thought Lexi Johnson portrayed the character of Mandie very well. I liked how the movie brought out the history of the Cherokees and connected Mandie's life with her Indian ancestors. Most of the main characters from the books appear in the movie, including: Uncle Ned, Mandie's step-mother, Aunt Lou, Liza, Jason Bond, Polly, Joe, Dr. Woodard, and Uncle John. This is a great movie for all ages. No bad language, immodesty, etc.
