Product Description

Emira is looking for a way of escape from the secluded life she leads as the only daughter of a Muslim sheik. When her father takes a second and her mother has a breakdown, Emira is sent to the hospital to be by her side. Will her salvation come while she makes the daily trip to the hospital? Desperate, Emira searches the eyes of the first person she sees on the outside--the taxi driver. Emira could never have imagined the events that would follow this first encounter. Freedom does come but not in the way that Emira planned. Though fiction, this book provides a realistic view of the struggles Muslims face in confronting the truth of Christ. Um Daoud gives the reader great insight into facet of Muslim life in the Middle East in contrast to what is portrayed to the West by the media. Living and working among Muslims for many years have enabled the author to move us past the stereotype and into the lives of individuals, each of whom gives us a different and deeper perspective on the Muslim world. In a world of growing but often distorted awareness on the Muslim world, this book is a refreshing and enlightening read for anyone who wants to see the reality of life for the average Muslim.

Author/Artist Review

Author: Um Daoud

Tell us a little about yourself.  I have lived and worked among Muslims for over 15 years. Due to the fact that I continue to reside in a Muslim country and because of the sensitive nature of my book, I write using a pen name.

What was your motivation behind this project?  I have always been concerned about the misperceptions of Westerners towards Muslims and therefore felt more compelled to get this book into the hands of readers following 9/11 and the continuing war on terror. I also wanted both Christians and Muslims to know that Christ can be accepted and followed in any environment. Lust Under the Veil serves to complement and enrich what is already written in the way of nonfiction on the subject of Muslims and Islam. Reading the book will encourage Christians to move past the stereotypes and see individuals in the Muslim world and in their own neighborhoods.

What do you hope folks will gain from this project?  Lust Under the Veil will be of special value to Christians around the world, as it presents not only the pressures Muslims face in coming to Christ, but also how they can face those pressures, accept Christ, and still stay in their own environmnet. In reality, it shares a church planting model that is proving more and more effective in the Muslim world.

Who are your influences, sources of inspiration or favorite authors / artists?  My husband gave the me title many years ago and asked me to write on the subject. He has been my encourager throughout my work on this book. My mother gave me a love for books for which I will always be grateful. John Grisham has been a good guide in looking at writing style as I've written fiction.

Anything else you'd like readers / listeners to know:  This book is about Emira, who is looking for a way of escape from the secluded life she leads as the only daughter of a Muslim sheik. When her father takes a second wife and her mother has a breakdown, Emira is sent to the hospital to be by her side. Will her salvation come while she makes the daily trip to the hospital? Desperate, Emira searches the eyes of the first person she sees on the outside--the taxi driver. Emira could never have imagined the events that would follow this first encounter. Freedom does come but not in the way that Emira planned.
