I must admit I sort of picked this book quickly, not overly excited about it BUT I loved it. What an inspiring read it was. The opening by Francis Chan gave me a picture of who Shelene Bryan WAS, and then to sit back and read how God touched her heart was awesome. She has become a woman inspired to help those who have needs all over the world and in her own back yard.
The title, Love, Skip, Jump- will come to stick in your head with meaning. Skipping, is basically Shelene's word for giving. Skipping involves passing up something you would normally have or do, and in turn giving that thing or money or time to someone else. It is a very realisitc way of giving out of our abundance. Jumping, touches on the ideas of just getting in there and stepping out to touch a life somehow. This phrase will be sticking with me for a long time. Early in the book she points out the verse we all know- JOhn 3:16. She helped me to notice that right after God ââ¬ËLOVED' the world, He GAVE something. Giving always follows love. Beautiful.
This book also reminded me that we live in a continent of abundance. We have so much more than we need. And that is not always a blessing. So many of Shelene's inspiring stories reminded me that I need to continually focus my choices on the ââ¬ËFirst Bank of Heaven'.
The stories and the style of writing are an honest, humble glimpse into a life that once was self absorbed. But now is a truly meaningful life of looking for ways to Love, Skip, Jump. I highly recommend
Courtney4 Stars Out Of 5An inspiring take on saying "yes"July 8, 2014CourtneyQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 4I have to admit that I originally picked up this book for two reasons: 1) the cover was pretty and 2) Francis Chan wrote the foreward. It was a surprising and welcomed added bonus that the book was also interesting and inspiring!
Shelene Bryan takes her readers on an adventure of saying "yes" to the Creator's plans for each of our lives. Although her story may not translate into the lives of each and every reader (not all of us have a large disposable income!), we can adapt and use the "love, skip, jump" formula to make it applicable to our own journey. Bryan uses the theme of "love, skip, jump" throughout the book, urging readers to love others and be in awe of the affectionate Creator we worship, to skip things in life in order to benefit another, and to jump into action to serve others as Jesus would.
Even though Bryan urges readers to remember that saying "yes" to the Creator doesn't mean that you should say "yes" all of the time, I'm still in a constant battle with the word "no." At school, work, church, and even at home, I'm constantly saying "yes" to things. This may be tied to my concern with not letting people down or my idea of control (I can do all the things!), but I'm still not sure when to say "yes" and when I can -- and should! -- say "no." I enjoyed reading Bryan's story and have a renewed excitement for God's plan for my life. Going forward, I need to rely on the Lord to show me when to say "yes" to his plans and when to say "no" to opportunities that would not honor or serve him in some capacity.
LalaAge: 18-24Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5Inspiring to say the least!July 5, 2014LalaAge: 18-24Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 4I absolutely loved and I mean absolutely LOVED this novel! Reading about Shelene's adventure of saying yes to God inspired me immensely since I have heard God asking me for a while now if I say yes to Him!
What inspired me so much is that she shares how's she not perfect. She talks about her upsets, judgements, and sometimes even doubt. She doesn't sugar coat her story in making it seem like she's perfect. She's just a woman who had God change her life and is on a constant adventure of saying yes to Him!
Shelene really proves her point in that when we do say yes to God and decide to jump that were not the only one affected by this decision. Countless people can be affected eternally by one decision to jump for Jesus!
I am extremely thankful that I picked up this novel because it will definitely inspire you personally to step out for Jesus! Like Shelene shares that it won't be easy, but there is a joy and contentment in knowing we obeyed our Savior!
I give Love, Skip, Jump by Shelene Bryan a 5 out of 5 stars!

Shelene talks about how a seemingly ordinary moment and question changed her life. She talks about how big a difference a little money was able to make in the life of a poor child in Africa. She tells about how her life was changed by the experiences that she had in areas outside of her comfort zone.
Shelene shows us how love changes our life. When we love, we want to give. We cannot love without giving. Sometimes we need to forego something (skip it) in order to have the resources to avail something for someone in need. Sometimes we need to jump and take a big risk, do something we've never done before, or something out of our comfort zone, in order to be and provide a miracle for someone else.
Sometimes, we need to say yes to a call that's truly out of line with our preferences, regardless of how hard it is, trusting that God will be with us and that He will make all things well. And as we do that, we enjoy His joy and provision.
I am applying what I learnt from this book this past weekend, as my life is going through a transition of sorts. God bless Shelene for writing this wonderful book!
KristinFort Worth, TXAge: 25-34Gender: female3 Stars Out Of 5May 28, 2014KristinFort Worth, TXAge: 25-34Gender: femaleLove Skip Jump written by Shelene Bryan is the story of a woman who is living a comfortable life while sponsor children in Africa without thinking much about it. The children that she sponsored where no much more than two extra photos that hung on her refrigerator. When someone challenged whether or not the children were real, or whether she had fallen for a scam she made a quick decision to travel to Africa to find out if they were really there. What happened next was a journey that changed her view of everything. She was amazed at what could happen when she chose to say yes to God, and be willing to help the people that she didn't know much about, but that depended on her each month. The book is full of stories that she encountered in her time in Africa as well as what she did when she got home by starting a foundation that encourages others to "skip" things like a cup of coffee to help those in need. The book was a funny and encouraging read that talks about how we can really make a difference in this world, though there have been other similar books that I have liked a bit more.
