I had to keep reading the same sentences and paragraphs over and over because I did not know what the author was saying. Stella was a big whiner. She bellyached about everything. Chase had to walk on eggshells around her. The author just kept saying the same thing over and over and over. I made myself finish this book. I did not like the cover couldn't really figure out what it was. I saw the woman and man but the rest couldn't figure that out. Just all around a big waste of my time.
MauriKansasAge: 45-54Gender: female4 Stars Out Of 5Love Arrives in PiecesOctober 4, 2016MauriKansasAge: 45-54Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5This is the story of a former beauty queen, Stella Varland, who still has panic attacks a year after being divorced. Her husband fell in love with her beauty but she now feels betrayed by that since it was not enough to hold his interest. She now avoids enhancing her beauty with cosmetics or attractive, colorful clothing. Stella is a shell of who she was, though she can still paste on a plastic "pageant smile" when needed. Her one release is art, which she does in secret. Her mother, a very take-charge woman, who still reminds Stella a pageant queen does or doesn't do certain things (though it's been several years since Stella competed) gets Stella a job as the interior designer for the old theater's renovation project. She did not know the contractor is Chase Taylor, who recently returned to his hometown of Bayou Bend after several years of living in Texas. Chase dated Stella's older sister Kat, though that relationship ended very badly (and with Chase fleeing to Texas) after Chase and Stella found they were attracted to each other. This is a story of the brokenness of Stella and Chase and what it takes for them to heal. There are many obstacles to overcome if they are to have a relationship beyond co-workers. There are several interesting secondary characters, including Kat (whose story was told in the previous book, ALL'S FAIR IN LOVE AND CUPCAKES), and Dixie, a homeless woman who seems to appear to Stella with just the right (though sometimes confusing) words. LOVE ARRIVES IN PIECES shows there is hope beyond the brokenness.
ShannahAge: 25-34Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5Complicated, Chaotic, and Simply wonderful!March 26, 2016ShannahAge: 25-34Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5When I first picked it up, I thought to myself "this book is utterly chaotic... in the best way possible!" I love Betsy St. Amant's writing style. This book is as chaotic as it's characters feelings and lives. I cannot even begin to describe how well I think this book is written. The more I read, the faster I wanted to read because I was so involved in Stella and Chase's story.
The chemistry, banter, and all out anger Stella and Chase have with one another is captivating. The emotions this books takes you through will bring you down and build you up all at the same time. I was literally healing right along side Stella and Chase. I felt their pains, hurts, and especially their victories. The depth of these characters is absolutely amazing. I can relate to a lot of the feelings Stella and Chase were dealing with because of my personal experience with loss. However, even if you haven't experienced some kind of loss, Betsy St. Amant has written the story so realistically, you can definitely relate.
The message of the story is about healing. It's about learning to lean on God to get you through the hard times and help you pick up the pieces of what you think is broken. There were several quotes in the story that punctuate that point: "God tells us to come to Him with faith like a child. I figure that means with our storms too. If it's going to rain anyway...might as well make something out of it." and "Beauty from broken." and my personal favorite (the one that resonated with me the most), "But God said 'Even though.'"
Overall, I highly recommend this book and I cannot wait to read more by this fantastic author.

The NerdHerd Reads3 Stars Out Of 5great companionNovember 6, 2015The NerdHerd ReadsQuality: 0Value: 0Meets Expectations: 0This is a companion to All's Fair in Love and Cupcakes, following the story of Kat's sister. Stella was a pageant queen, but her glory days are over. Now, she divorced, and only a shell of the person she used to be. Until her former flame, Chase, comes back into town. After hurting both her and her sister, he is the last person she wants to work with on a project, but she has no choice.
I wasn't sure if what happened with Chase was said in the first book. In fact, I even went back and flipped through it, but got nothing more than a vague sense. So we go through much of the story not knowing exactly what happened, only that he hurt both Stella and Kat, tremendously, harming the sisters' relationship in the process. So no one is exactly happy to see him. (I will point out, this can be read without reading Kat's story. I suppose there will just be spoilers for how Kat's story ends up.)
Stella and Chase were very real characters. They have both been through a lot, they're both hurting. They had real flaws, went through real problems. They're relationship was so real, as they had ups and downs, learning how to trust each other after such a hurt. Stella has really drawn into herself, trying to make herself not as pretty. She's lost her brightness, her shine. Chase helped her to come out of her shell, become the bright, beautiful shell she used to be. I loved seeing her growth and change.
This was a very fun story. I think it dealt with deeper and darker issues than its companion, but it was still sweet and cute. I loved these characters and this story.
Simply EmmyBacolod City, PhilippinesAge: 35-44Gender: female4 Stars Out Of 5Love Arrives in PiecesAugust 14, 2015Simply EmmyBacolod City, PhilippinesAge: 35-44Gender: femaleQuality: 4Value: 5Meets Expectations: 4I didnt really intend to read this book but BookLook recommended this as a 3rd book so I hesitantly added it to my list. Honestly, I did not regret it. I absolutely, absolutely liked this novel. Its a story of forgiveness, healing, redemption and moving on. The characters had depth, which also means for me that the writer has depth. The characters reaction are real they are a mix of eccentric, weird, regular and ordinary people who went through stuff and struggles because of it.
I liked that Betsy did not rush the unfolding of events in the book. It was carefully written and the lines are well thought of as reflected in the conversations of the characters in the book as well as their inner conversations.
What I did not like in the book is that some of the reactions of Stella is a bit childish for me. I feel like some of it are just plain over-reaction and squeamish. But having experienced slight panic attacks myself, I think that some of it are also valid.
I love the wisdom in the book and the theme of the entire story. To me, the metaphor that Betsy used is classic if youre not good at dancing in the rain then stomp in the puddles after the rain, instead.
Love Arrives in Pieces is more than just its title. Its wholesome. Its romantic. Its real. There is beauty in the broken pieces. There is strength in the struggle. There is redemption in the ruins.
Go, pick up the book and enjoy reading it.
